Ok might be a bit biased....:D Do have to say the final did not meet expectations... Both teams did not play the way they are able to. And yes, De Jong should really have gotten a red card. On the other hand the Spanish and specially Iniesta mastered the art of diving every single time.
And for the 12th player, this tournament showed FIFA has to evaluate the referee system. Again a game has been (unintended) decided by the referee. They missed a corner kick at a crucial time, the second yellow for Huntelaar should not have been called for.
I think the referee did all he could do but with the speed of the game having only one referee is not possible anymore. And why have an European referee who did not have a great track record to start with play this game? Are there really no other refs from Asia or South America available? Or about the fact almost all referees are paid a fee and don't have a professional status. Remember the England-Germany game. Unacceptable in this time and age.
Anyways, just the opinion of a disappointed Dutchy.....

JOHANNESBURG - Johan Cruyff had after the lost World Cup final against Spain from Orange (0-1) no good to say about the hard play of the formation of Bert van Marwijk. "Orange unsportsmanlike play, especially in the first half with outrageous violations," the best Dutch player of all time.
The Spaniards also did not do well according to Cruyff. "Spain played poorly, with the lines too far apart."
" The referee was very, very weak and thus just a bad final. Only the extension was fun," concluded the captain of the 1974 World Cup finals. (source : Telegraaf, telesport)
