What people don't understand is that they both played like shit the ENTIRE game, and that if the goal had been discounted they would have continuted the same amount of time, there had been another discounted goal so energy was up (2 minutes) and then taken penalty kicks for it. It was a barrage match and they were 1-1 up until that point.

I'm just glad because nobody burned my train home or jumped in front of the tracks as a result :D

I agree that they both played like shi* but the issue here is that one of them was out because of an admitted referee incompetence!
If we had to endure penalties,so be it,at least one would qualify sportingly!

I know that, and agree. What I want to say is that people were acting like if not for that it would have certainly been Ireland. It would have been a tie.

Aussies all the way... Germany? Do they play soccer? Serbia? Aren't they just the last bit of Yugoslavia left over after all those wars? Ghana? Is that somewhere in Africa?

Okay, just joking. I think we are in the sh*t.

:iagree:
Personally, I would love if Ivory Coast topped their group and knocked out either Brasil or Portugal. I have Chile advancing to the Round of 16 as second best of Group H and therefore would have to play the first place team of Goup G, which I have as Brasil. It's historical but Chile has never fared well against the Brasilians and they would have a better shot against an up-and-comer like Ivory Coast. Either way, they should all be great matches - that Drogba is awesome!!

Exactly!Funny thing is that France would most likely have gone through on penalties or even if FIFA had decide to replay the game. Now ,after what happenned and if France do achieve soemthing in SA, by playing well and deserving the success, the controversial way that they qualified will always cast a shadow on them.
Having said this, all that people will remember in the future are the results:)

Greece, for the great underdogs that they are!

brian5 12-24-2009 01:21 PM

Greece?? I think that they used up all their luck by winning UEFA Euro 2004 ;)

I think it needs to be England or an underdog that should win? Actually, I guess England is an underdog? :D

I thought that I better revive this thread given the imminent 'friendly' between the USA and Australia. Not that I have an great faith that Australia will do well either in this game or the WC in general, but here hoping...
