Yes Thunder, that is an air dam. All 3 chevy's lost plastics on the front bumpers :D. (I made fun of them because my whole front bumper and underside is plastic and I didn't lose/damage anything)

And apetrov1x5, 2 of the 3 chevy's are 4x4 with all terrain tires (one still got stuck) and the red one is 2 wheel with street tires... it took alot to keep that one from getting stuck, mainly carefully planned tire paths and speed for momentum.

I really want video for next time because we all got straight sideways powering through that mud!

Weasel,

Nice work with your X. Always fun to surprise a few people what the X can do. I've got Pirelli Scorpion ATRs on 17s. Good off road and still surprisingly good on road in terms of noise, grip and comfort.

you are my hero
is there any way to go off road with out all the dirt and mud, though?

Yeah, those ATRs are available in the 18's as well, but I may even think about something more aggresive than that. Me and one of the other good ol boys from work took a really good look under an X5 and figured out what would need to be done for about 3 inches of lift to fit bigger tires. I figure it would be worth doing in a few years when the truck is paid off and I move on to something newer. (mybe an X6 trade in?) or just swap over to the emplotee lease deals. Then I could have the worlds first lifted BMW X5!

Aside from extra clearance, what the X really needs for off road use is more wheel travel but that's easier said than done.

PS: My Pirelli ATRs are my do-everything tyre. You could go heaps more aggressive if you have two sets of wheels. Interesting to see the Paris-Dakar X3CC (pic above) is on 16s...

Well, I have my 20" 87s for mt every day tires... and in the deep south of Louisiana I have no need for winter tires so the 18s i picked up on can be for when I need some offroading grip. And the ground is flat enough down here we don't even really need the wheel travel. What I really need is tires with huge sipes, self cleaning tread type of thing. The mud down here is very thick and sticky, turns most tires to slicks instantly...

I just noticed that your X is pre xDrive so your mud running was even more impressive...
