For most insurance companies if you got a police repport before you moved the vehicle they will honor it as no fault, hence no deductible. I once got hit in my car and i did not know until the next day so they told me to go online and do a no fault police report and fax it to them and that worked. All this may differ state to state and who your carier is. Good luck!

First estimate was $1,679. Consists of replacing front bumper, repairing the fender and replacing plastic trim peice on fender.

That sucks man. In my repo trucks I have this camera system called Drivecam, mostly so that my tow trucks don't get abused but it has helped out in other ways too. The camera sits next to the rearview mirror and has two lenses front and back and both are panoramic so that you can see everything in front and everything in back and a good part of the sides too. The cameras are allways rolling, even while the truck is off but they only save the footage for review when a physical event happens to the vehicle. They go back to save 15 seconds before the event and 15 seconds after the event so you can see the whole event take place. The particular things that set it off are any kind of shock to the vehicle or any kind of sharp change of direction or speed (any collision or poor driving) or you can manually set if off by pressing a button for personal safety reasons. I just plug my USB from laptop into the camera and download any events that took place since the last download and watch them.
It has saved me lots of money on a few accidents with no eye witnesses (he said/she said) where I am the big lying company and the other participant is the poor truth telling citizen victim. Well after downloading the footage, I became the truth telling victim and the poor lying citizens insurance is paying to repair my truck. I've never had someone hit my tow trucks in a parking lot . . . probably because they're tow trucks but the camera would pick it up if that happened. That would have worked great for you in that instance. Imagine their faces when the cops knock on their door and question about the incident. The fun part would be hearing all the lies before they learn you have them on camera. I even get discounts on my commercial insurance for having them. While I don't have any in my private vehicles, I'm thinking about installing them especially in my kid's vehicle so I can tell if he is driving properly or if I need to take his keys away from him. |

I have had them for about 5 years now and cost was about $1k per. Also, there are monitoring plans that can be purchased too where they will let you know if an event has happened and send you the footage instead of you downloading it yourself. Prices may have gotten more reasonalble since my purchase. Even if still $1k, that might be equal to about 2 of your CO deductibles and might save you even more money like it has me. Of course it is transferrable from vehicle to vehicle once you trade in your X. Google it and read up on it for more info.

Intersting. I will have to check them out just for the heck of it. I bet this comes in handy big-time for you.
Luckily, my deductible is $0 for this type of damage with my current insurance. I would love to catch the person in the act though. |
Ahh mann, such a headache. I hate it! People can be sooo loww. Luckily things are working out in your favor with your insurance. I'll never forget this one time, I just got my 06' 4.8is, it was about two months after I got it. I went to the mall and saw an open spot right in front. I pulled in but I was skeptical about it since I always parked so far away with my X. I realized the person next to me was leaving and the spot to my right was open. I figured I'd wait and see who parks next to me since I knew it wasn't going to be long. Some stupid young girl driving with two guys whips her little old jetta into the spot and the guy that gets out of the back hits my car with his door. I couldn't believe it, I was heated. I jumped out of my car and approached these kids while they were walking away. I snapped so quick as they acted like their shit didnt stink and kept saying they didnt do anything. Luckily, this girl's rear door opened up right onto the rear fender flare that the 4.8is has. Since it is that plastic-like material it didnt leave a mark, I was so surprised and happy but it still got me pissed. I have always parked far far away from everything ever since. I felt like spitting all over this girl's windshield but figured karmas a bitch.... and remembered my mom's saying, "if you lay down with the pigs your gonna get dirty." haaha! ;)
