OT: Forums Mod/Forum founders - Homepage too Large

The main news center that is now the prominent display on the homepage is a smigen too large IMO. The XOP site is one of the very few sites in that you even have to scroll horizontal...on the main homepage.

Just some food for thought....

chilliwilli 08-07-2010 07:57 AM

Not an issue on my mac...perhaps you can adjust your screen size? :dunno:

chefwong 08-07-2010 08:03 AM

1440x900 on my MBP using Firefox.
Desk has a 2560x ??

The forum thread pages are fine.
It's the *main homepage* that the resolution/canvas size is set to is too large ..

Thunder22 08-07-2010 09:12 AM

Yup, same thing on IE and Chrome. It's been that way for awhile, needs to be shrunk horizontally.

LeMansX5 08-07-2010 10:14 AM

ok..fixed something. Check now and let me know.
Looks OK on my desktop.....I have 1600x1200 res.

Thunder22 08-07-2010 03:31 PM

Still scrolling and i'm in 1200x800

Weasel 08-07-2010 03:41 PM

Looks better now than it was the last few days, my res is 1680/1050 (adjusted to fit with my 1600/1200 projector res) so I didn't need to scroll, but the "latest forum topics" on the right was waaay too narrow. Looks better now but still not to where it was before the news feed.

Thunder22 08-07-2010 03:50 PM

Exactly, putting a tower on both sides of the page needs a lot of real estate.

recklessspyder 08-07-2010 04:49 PM

It was this way (horizontal scrolling) for me for about a week. After I actually scrolled to the right and back to left, the next time I loaded it, it rendered fine. I'm running 1920x1080 on firefox.

4.6is Ryder 08-07-2010 05:20 PM

It's off the page on mine as well....I'm running 1366 x 768..............Phil

LeMansX5 08-07-2010 08:48 PM

Ok, I further reduced the center news feed area. Let me know if it still needs scrolling.
I will start a thread on what is monitor res for majority of members so I can keep our members happy. :)

Weasel 08-07-2010 09:30 PM

Seems just where it should be for me now.

It should auto-stretch/condense, not our fault it's coded poorly ;)

chefwong 08-08-2010 11:34 AM

I can't believe it's taken this long for it to even come up....
I figuered it would work itself out when the center newsfeed became giganormous one day.
Looking better across the board.

drex 08-13-2010 07:02 PM

lol actually sunil figured it out.... some of his great pictures were a little too big. we got it down now!

Michelle 08-13-2010 10:32 PM

Not quite down enough for my laptop....

Buy a bigger laptop! :nanana:

(couldn't resist!)

JCL 08-14-2010 01:56 AM

Or don't ever go to the home page, the forums page works fine as a home page and has tabs for everything.

That is 10" laptop screen. Take Weasel's advice. ;)

Actually it's a 15" screen... the same size as Jeff's. So he sees it the same as I do.

But it has the same screen res as my 3-year old 10" lightweight laptop, i.e.1024x768. How old is the laptop? ;) My 15" laptop has 1280x800 and it looks fine. You may need to increase the res on your laptop.

and this is how it looks on my 15" laptop. Trust me....Drex has put lot of hard work into making sure that the banner auto resizes based on screen res. Hats off to him.

I have it set to the largest resolution.

The E70 in the banner is completely covered by the "st.com" part of the logo.

drex 08-23-2010 06:27 PM

time for a new laptop

It doesn't bother me much as I don't use the Home page often but I agree with the OP that the horizontal part is too wide.

Note that I'm not talking about the banner at the top (and I don't think the OP was either). Some others have brought that up.

I have multiple monitors and I run my browser windows on 1200x1600 resolution (yes, rotated) and this is what the Home page looks like:

chefwong 08-23-2010 07:00 PM

Autostretch would be nice but for me, it's looking alot better then where it was originally at. I run ultra hi resolutions at the desk at 2560x ??? and I was still scrolling the site.

At 1440 res on the notebook, it's fine even with my window opened at 80%

Thanks! Just ship it to my house!

BTW - are you buying one for just me, or all of the mods?
