I don't think you can win

My point is that people buy Rolex because it is a Rolex not because its a good watch.

With BMW it a little different, Its a great car/truck but I still think most people buy it for its status.

I use my car for business and the Chevy Blazer would just not give the same image.

I just don't think most people are honest with them selves.

That said I don’t think I will ever buy a Rolex.

There's no need for everyone to get their knickers in a twist, and no one was arguing, we were having a pretty good discussion (surprisingly) about the differences, with the major discussion point being bang for the buck, so if anyone is put off or upset, well, I can't control that, but if you read the entire thread through, I think you'll see it's a pretty light hearted discussion about cars....

Rolex's are timeless/classic time pieces and are used as official time measurements.. of course not at the caliber of Pateks and such but nevertheless, they still have some great movements... but I digress.

Any cheap quartz watch will keep better time.

The Rolex is just for status :mantis:

Well that would explain the snob comments. I'm sure that some would buy a BMW simply to have a BMW, these are the folks that usually buy that Bimmer with 140,000 miles on it for about $10,000 just so they can say they have a BMW. However, most people you would find on this site are of another variety. I have found in my own experience that those that don't have a BMW/MD/LR or whatever are the ones that say "oh, that is a snobs vehicle, bought for the name" while the people that have owned NUMEROUS Bimmers buy the vehicle for the wonderful designs, overall good quality, features such as X-Drive and 5-star safety ratings along with bi-xenon adjusting headlights, Panoramic moon roofs and other items that were not seen until a few years ago in mass numbers. There is more to buying a BMW then the Roundel.

Ugh, I need to chill...I just get bent when people act like a $60K SUV is some amazingly expensive vehicle that only the snobbiest of owners can have. Simply because the person did not want, what in their eyes was, a lesser vehicle. Fact of the matter is if you own personal preference didn't have any say, we would all drive around in cars costing far less then 20,000.00.

:iagree:
I'm a Realtor here in LA and image is very important. I bought my X5 because I wanted a SUV(or SAV for X5 purists :D) that I could write off, drove like a car and gave the image of success. I've lost count as to how many times clients and friends have mentioned, "nice car, you must be doing well" or "business must be good". If I rolled up in a Blazer SS or even a Cherokee SRT, I might get "nice car", but that's it. Maybe it's different in other parts of the country or world, where those 2 cars are status symbols because they're not a Kia or Hyundai(no offense), but we spend the money to portray a certain image. If image wasn't important in my business, I would probably consider the SS or SRT. After all, it gets you from point A to point B pretty fast and you would have $20-30k extra in your pocket. That being said, if anyone wants to buy or sell in the LA area, please let me know; I would be more than happy to help you :)

LOL.. spoken like a true ignoramus.

If I really want to show off some status, I'll be wearing a Patek, Frank Muller, or Harry Winston.
