Once I make the move to the new house I'm going from living <5 miles from work to >50 miles from work... I would love to get one of these, and just plug it in at work everyday! (now that's how to beat the system!)

HA - good idea. I can just picture a bitg fat extension cord going out to the parking lot hidden under a bunch of cardboard and mats

Looks like an Aston Martin.

There you go. Invest in some conduit and just piggy back off an outlet from the building. Just make sure it is GFCI!

Hell, at the shop it would be easy as hell to do... I park within 15 feet of the main breaker panel!

Once they bring out efficient solar panels to the market, this will be an even better car. Even with current solar panels, some customers can run a surplus that they would normally store or send back to the grid. With an electric car, that surplus would easily be, essentially, free fuel (well, aside from the cost of panels and their installation).

In the meantime, Fisker Karma is coming out, albeit it is considerably more money than the Model S. But it promises to have a gasoline engine, which makes it more usable for longer trips.

Have you considered a Volt?

CT_X5_Joe 03-01-2011 01:08 PM

Ill move to Canada and ride a bicycle before I buy a Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, Toyota Prius (or any other ECO-tree huger car)

For me, personally, I like the Model S because of how it looks and the performance.

The Volt has about as much sex appeal as an orthopedic shoe...

What is the amperage output for the charger to the Model S? Isn't the normal quick charger for a 440v 3 stage supply? Might be a loong while before solar panels can push that output...

Honestly, I do not know the answer off the top of my head. I'm sure current panels aren't completely up to the task just yet. But there will be new panels coming out soon - that much is a safe bet IMHO.

And whoever asked that question about Volt should just get rid of his Bimmer, move to Canada and ride a bike! Seriously, have you SEEN Volt?! :stickpoke
