you can choose your own resolution and stuff... its pretty cool...

You could use this program but it is new and therefor buggy. Additionaly while you can convert various video formats into iPod-friendly 320 x 240 H.264 video. Note, however, the Videora is no good for widescreen videos, which it will flatten into tall and skinny-looking 4:3 movies. But if you're using more standard 4:3 video, this is a good solution. you can edit preset resolution in the setup or make a new profile for widescreen movies.....

which means u can put your own resolution...

The program I bought decrypt's the DVD and then you use 'Videora iPod Converter'. This leaves you for example with a 434mb (this size for this movie - 65 minutes long) Mpeg 4 file. I then simply imported it into iTunes which although small can be viewed. As I haven't got my iPod Video yet I can't test whether I can then transfer it onto the iPod.

Although films can obviously be transferred onto the iPod, it'll take some planning and time to ensure I have everything I want before I get on holiday! :driver:

OK, so it arrived today and I had a good play with it (the iPod that is!)

Firstly whilst I appreciate the iPod video is light years ahead of my 1G iPod, it is many light years ahead. The resolution is fantastic and the information it gives on screen seems is more informative. It all loads quicker and seems to be smoother than previous versions.

I have been ripping loads of DVD's over tha last couple of days using the software I mentioned in the early part of the thread and have uploaded the lot. I have about 25 hours of comedy, films, Top Gear and other rubbish and my first impression is WOW!

Whilst because of the screen size I wouldn't want to view this all day long, as a portable piece of kit it is amazing. The definition and clarity is astounding, sound is good through decent earplugs and it works right out of the box.

The only downside is the face. I bought the black version and already you can see scratches on the it. I bought my son the Philips GoGear for Christmas (the one he wanted) and whilst the player is as good, it's dead sexy and very easy to use you can't play video's etc. However apart from the fact that all of my music in iTunes can't be used and we have to re-rip the stuff he wants (not much!), the screen not only feels different but seems almost resistant to scratching. A quick buff up with a duster and it's like new, do that on an iPod and it's like.........old!

Anyway, back to playing.....
