iPod Video
 

Firstly, Happy Christmas everyone! :thumbup:

I have ordered a 60gb iPod video and I am aware that in the UK you can't (yet) download TV programmes and films, so it is only really useful for music videos.

However I've found this software that allows you to convert any recorded video/DVD/CD etc for use on the iPod video.

Has anyone used it or anything similar?

are you an apple user? their are very good tools to convert fast and easy movies/video to ipod.

Nope, I'm a PC user. As I understand it either via apple or pc Apple have made it pretty difficult to convert normal DVD's to be viewed on the iPod Video (helps promote sales via apple.com!).

What do you do and how does a Mac help?

their is a simple program , 'isquint' (for mac only, and freeware) you only have to choose the file, and press start... it converts quite fast in the ipod format.

If you want to convert dvds?
first you have to backup your dvd on your harddisk, then convert it to .avi and then their are some programs who are capable to convert it to your ipod

I believe all you have to do is spend $29 dollars on QuickTime Pro; it has an option for you to make any video iPod-compatible. Give it a try.

I've downloaded the program, copied, burnt and imported a DVD. It was an hour long film and in all took about 2 hours to complete the process. Took about 3gb which I'll remove now the library is updated in iTunes.

Whilst I haven't got the iPod video yet, it has imported into iTunes and plays fine. As it cost under $30 for the software and seems to have worked, I'm happy!

QuickTime Pro works really good and will fit right onto the ipod video but the only thing is that it will take a really long time to compress.

Thanks for the education. I don't have a video iPod yet but this is why I hang out here. The ability to learn a lot for later use. Appreciate it.

Seems to me that all software takes time to compress.

The iPod ships on the 29th so I've got a few days to wait until I can test if my movie works :mad:
