My 16-year old went to driving school yesterday. A 16-year old friend of his drove there (with parent) in his brand-new BMW 3-series convertible. I don't know what's wrong with these parents... :damn:

I realize the noveau-riche/one up the Joneses has taken over HS and even junior high, but I don't get the fawing, "let's buy Lil'Biff a new 3 series vert"...

My first car was a '52 Ford Flathead V8 with '3 on the tree'...when I was 19, I got to take a car back to the U: a badly used '62 VW Bug. And, I could drive much better than that kid in the vid. :D

All of you here concentrating on changing driving techniques in the rain; while it is true that driving style has to change based on conditions, you should all know and suggest to others that they check their tires frequently.

These tires wear out very quickly, the month to month change in tread depth can be great and probably more of an issue than "technique."

I hydroplane all the time. (well, in the rain)

The key is chassis control, and never having all 4 wheels off the road. God forbid if you are rotating when you hit deeper water. And of course you slow down if you cannot assess the roadway ahead of you...

The X5 and M videos all involve turning, lane changes in water. And not being able to correct immediately before the rotation develops.

The M3 was stupid- he was drifting to the right, unweighed, touched the shoulder and it was over. The head in hands was painful.
