I had been driving Jeeps for decades. After they quit making the Commander and rounded off all the remaining models, I decided it was time to move on. The X5 and the XC90s were really the only things out there I liked. Found an '05 4.8is and traded in my '10 Commander when I was made an offer for the Jeep I couldn't pass up.

Real happy with the X5. Have it back in almost new running condition now.

The X was my third BMW, after the 528, and 540.

325is, then 330ci, then the X over about a 12 year span...

My first BMW.

I drove VW's for years since I got my license in 2003.

'99.5 MKIV Jetta VR6 was my first, got it with 45k miles on it and sold with 147k in 2008. Loved that car, I did everything and anything in it.

Bought a 2008 GLI 2.0T new from the dealership as my college graduation present to myself in May 2008, loved that car as well, but with all my VW's, they were lowered on coils (bcuz stance), had low profile tires in summer, and loud exhausts.

Fast forwarded to late 2011, I needed something more practical for wintertime as I never raised my coilovers on my vehicles, and even though I had snow tires being 3" off the ground in winter was never too bright of an idea. My GLI had a ton of power (Stage 2+ tuned with 265 hp and 315 lb ft!), but I already was on my second motorcycle by 2011 so if I wanted power I just hopped on that.

I would go off shootin into the night before I gave up my manual transmission, I wanted to keep in the German car family, and enjoyed the luxuries of such vehicles.

The only choices to me then were an E53 with a manual transmission, or a 6MT Cayenne. At the time and still to this day, the E53 is the better choice for my wallet. Coming up on 3 years of ownership in December and this friggin vehicle still makes me smile every time I drive it.

I plan on staying in the Bimmer family if I can for many years, I just hope that the lack of manual transmissions doesn't affect the whole brand down the road.

The x was my 3rd Bimmer..
I currently own 2 E34s as well

First bought my RHD E34 5 years ago..then the 535 was 2 years ago and the X was just the start of this year.

Before that I started(and still love) Nissans.

240sx coupe converted Silvia
200sx turbo

then went to Euro

02 TDI Jetta
2012 2.0t Jetta
2014 GTI

then went with a Honda Ruckus scooter swapped with a 150cc engine and stretched 6 feet..

traded that in for enough money for my E34 and a plane ticket to buy the car

X is my first BMW car. Have had bikes for years, almost bought a 3 series and a 5 a few years ago but finally bought the x in 2011. Love it when it works good, drives me nuts sometimes.

Yes it was. I was a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited driver previously. I started with a 2001 X5 4.4i in 2005 and then downgraded to a 2008 X5 3.0si in 2011.

The X5 was our first BMW. When we had the major historic snowstorm here in 2011 and like many around us, were stranded in our homes for 3 days, my wife decided her next vehicle was going to be a SUV since she's a nurse and missing work is not an option. She actually sought out the BMW X5 and the Volvo XC90. I personally never was drawn to BMW cars as they were, to me, generally compact and drove too low to the road for my taste. We test drove a super clean and nice white X5 4.4 but it had an oil leak that burned horribly after the engine warmed up. We test drove an Lexus RX 300 but I told her I really liked how that X5 both drove and handled. About a month later we were at an import car dealer that happen to have both a XC90 and an X5. Again I was impressed with the overall handling and ride of the X5 over the Volvo. The X5 was more solid, had better performance, and seemed more of a true "SAV/SUV" than the Volvo. She preferred the X5 as well and we drove it home and long story short, I gladly took it over when I needed a new ride a year later and let her get something new.
