The RND key will shuffle the playlist you are currently on.

I have this kit and I installed it myself. It's not that difficult.

It will shuffle through your entire iPod. You select Disc 6 on your stereo and that accesses the entire iPod disk. Press RND and you will be shuffling through all of your songs. That's pretty much how I use it. If a song comes on that I like and I know it's part of an album I want to hear, I turn RND off and at least get to hear some of the songs from that album.

The Dension system is better for control but the BMW kit does work as advertised.

What do you have to label the playlists?

In the BMW kit, they must be labeled "BMW1", "BMW2" and so forth.

Do you have to use the "BMW"? Or BMW1?

The playlists have to be named "BMW1", "BMW2, "BMW3", "BMW4" and "BMW5" or they will not be recognized by the BMW kit.

The ice>Link will recognize playlists in any name format.

You can not shuffle through a song. So if you have a long MP3 (like a radio show or dance mix), split the mp3 into inny bitty files before loading onto the iPod.

There is a scan feature but it only plays the first 10 seconds and then moves on to the next track.

Not sure what you mean, but shuffle means random.

With the BMW ipod interface, you can FF Fastforward, or REV Reverse through a track. If you've got non-nav though, then you need to have Random or Repeat selected for that.

If they are not selected, then FF and REW are used to increment the track number by 10.

One final point for those folks interested in the BMW OEM iPod solution. It will work with Sirius and Nav, despite BMW saying it wont. PM me if anyones interested ... you just have to make some small mods to the wiring harness.

On the playlist names, you can add any text after the correct name, i.e BMW1 - New Tunes

Any thoughts?

I have installed the XM Direct in my 2006 X5. It works great thru the factory radio. The question is whether or the Dice Ipod kit or any Ipod Kit with work this XM Direct installed. i do not have a CD changer installed, but do have factory in dash CD player.

So the modes are CD and SAT, and I am not sure that IPOD which normally takes CD mode would work.
