Ipod your BMW

I just leased a '06 X3 and am getting the ipod your bmw. for those that have it... how is it? are you able to shuffle through your whole library of mp3s? Thank you!

Welcome and congrates on your X3.

If you go through posts regarding ipods, you'll notice that most of us prefer the Icelink to the ipodyourBMW.

I can't answer your question, but I know the icelink allows practically full control of your ipod. The biggest selling point for me was being able to use steering wheel controls.

The BMW iPodYourBMW solution is "adequate", but not as good as the Dension IceLink Plus. With the IceLink Plus you have many more features, such as the ability to display the ID3 song tags on your MID, dash, or nav screen.

Contact Tom G. at EAS for everything you will need.

It works. The sound comes out, and it charges your IPod. You are limited to 5 playlists, which show up on the 5 radio buttons. Not much more to say.

Before you install it, or pay to have it installed, you could still get the IceLink Plus, and sell the BMW part. Not having the limit on playlists, having the choice of IceLink or IPod interfaces, navigating playlists/albums/artists from the steering wheel, plus the text display, has resulted in the vast majority preferring the Dension product. Even my dealer likes the Dension interface.

The issue is that if you want to stay OEM, you can put in the BMW aux input for much less money, and add a 12v charger. That leaves you with pretty much the same functionality as the IPod Your BMW kit.

But to answer your original question, yes, it works for what it is intended to do.

I have never used the IPod Your BMW kit, but according to the Apple/BMW website, you can skip tracks and shuffle. Not sure how you get to the shuffle (RND?); suggest you take a look in the manual.

You probably would have to select shuffle or repeat on your iPod, prior to plugging it in.

I dunno if anyone noted this, but you have 5 playlists for the 1-5 buttons on your dash, but the 6th button plays all the songs on your iPod...
