My custom X5 install (PICS)

Finally got around to taking pictures of my X5 install...

2 - JL Audio 10w6v2 Subwoofers
2 - A/D/S 236is components (front)
2 - A/S/S 236is components (rear)

Hifonics Zeus 85x4 RMS amp for components
Hifonics Brutus 1500x1 RMS amp for subwoofers

Here are the subs and amps in the custom enclosure. There are white LED's and blue neon accents under the amps; it's hard to see in the daylight photo.

That is a sick set-up man!! how much did everything run if you dont mind me asking? Looks great and it must slam

Dblock2151 05-30-2006 10:10 PM

Looks fantastic, definitely the setup I've always had planned for my X. Did you have to take out your spare?

Verbalkint 05-30-2006 10:10 PM

Very nice sound system you've got there, and a very clean install, too.

You may want to check out the ice>Link Plus. :)

Rolex Snob 05-30-2006 10:30 PM

Thanks for the replies,

The setup was about $2800-3000 including all my materials. It was a work in progress so I really don't have an exact figure, it's more of an estimate. The A/D/S comps and JL sub were the bulk of the price.

Also, I did remove my spare. I use AAA :)

I have been looking at the ice>link plus but I have no clue how transparent it installs when the ipod your BMW splice install has already been done to the factory radio.

nice clean job:thumbup:

Nice touch putting the amps and woofers in the floor; allows you to keep some of the limited cargo space! Is there any way to hide the setup from opportunistic eyes?

It's a 2002 X5 4.4i and it's been extremely reliable (knock on wood).

It's black with the sport wheels, no exterior pics yet because it isn't clean and I am lazy. I plan on throwing on some zaino this weekend so I will post ext pics later on.

These are the most incredible subs I have ever heard. The box just brings them to life in a great way. I have had so many custom tricked out systems in the past and I would say this by far has been the best sounding.

The subwoofers simply do not distort, they handle any type of bass hit and most importantly they just don't pump out the same low tone. When I listen to live rock it sounds like a real drum that was recorded live. When I listen to electronic stuff like Chemical Brothers or Daft Punk it will get so deep and loud I can feel food creeping it's way back up my throat. :)

Any reason you went with W6's instead of W7's? Did you want more of a SQL setup?

I dislike SPL setups, not in a hater kinda way but it's more of a different strokes for different folks kinda thing. I like to hear the full spectrum of music; even though I listen to a ton of electronic I just don't like that crazy overpowering bass.

I am a SQ freak, always have been.

Also, W7's would require a complete redesign that wouldn't look as good IMO. I don't believe there was enough room for W7's; the JL dealer tried their hardest to sell them to me. :)

ljnlaw 07-03-2006 07:16 PM

Looks awesome...but I know it must sound amazing, good with the new mods.
