Here is some more information and pictures of installing the AUX connector at the radio module iteself, instead of upfront behind the nav screen.

Yes, it is from september 2003, and has NAV. I just checked a pdf file in the articles, and it seems that the aux cable which needs to be connected in front (behind the nav screen) has another connector than the trunk-mount version... So I do not see how I can connect the first one in the trunk ...

Drex is right on. If you have a Sept 2003 X5 then you should have a connector in the front for the AUX. That means you can choose where you want the connector to go: in the front (for a glove box install, etc) or in the rear at the radio module. You can do either one.

one more question here : how can I solder RCA female jacks onto the AUX connector end ? Split the brown cable ?

Thanks!

basically, cut off the phono plug and solder ground to the white/brown, left to the white/red, right to the white/blue
