OEM tv Tuner problems****
 

I have a retrofitted hybrid tv tuner in my x3 and the thing works well....


the tuner is fine when the car is off or in the first key position, wheni swithc it to the first switch on the ignition there is a slight engine noise when displaying TV.

then when you go to turn the engine on i get more noise and an engine whine.......does anyone know why this is happening....

in most case its,that tv wiring is near power cable.
I have retrofited tv too, but i have not any problems.
I suggest to raise up whole tv cable(cable from tv-module to VAN,there is 1pin to radio too,as I remember) in air,as far away from other cables as possible,than test. If it will not help try other TV-module.
If it helps, try different route for cable.

There may be a loose or bad connection somewhere within the system. Does turning on/off the headlights affect the system?

i am suspecting the ground might not be completely perfect, when i turn on the headlight YES it does affect it a little,

ill change where the ground goes then ill test if not, do i need another cable???????????

Also check the rca connections. That normally gives a really horrible hum when the vehicle has started.

The X5 has a seperate grounding wire since the X5 TV mounting brakcet is plastic. I do not recall in the X3 if the bracket is plastic, but if it is plastic, you will need to ground the TV video module to chassis ground with a BMW grounding cable. The cable attaches to the screw on the top of the module on one side and the chassis ground on the other.

Also good point about the rear backup camera system. You can NOT have the power for the camera shared with the power for the backup relay. That is a known cause of noise. The backup camera needs it own seperate power

thanks for the reply, the grounds are fine, the info on the back up camera is interesting, mabye i run seperate power for this, come to think of it the noise has been there since the install of the camera.....maybe ill unplug and see whats up..........

when you say backup realy what do you mean???

this is driving me crazy, im thinking of dumping the whole thing for aftermarket
