x5 aux input weird problem

Hey guys, I've searched and searched and can't find an answer to this problem. I've seen one other member have the same problem, but nobody ever answered him. Basically, I'm trying to install an aux input by connecting the pins for the adapter into slots 3, 4, and 10. However, there are already pins in slots 3 and 4. I tried removing those two pins and then inserting the wires from the aux input, but the radio wouldn't turn on when I did this. Any ideas? Instead of having just two wires in the black 12-pin harness, I have four. I have no clue what to do.

What year is your X5? Do you have nav? Do you have DSP?

Is this for the standard radio aux input? Why don't you just buy the BMW cable?

Sorry, totally forgot to mention 2003, no dsp, no nav. This is the BMW Cable that I have btw. The directions said to remove the wires from the aux input harness and insert them into the black 12pin harness into slots 3, 4, and 10, but there are already wires in 3 and 4.

Have you reviewed these instructions? - http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/au...stallation.pdf

I've seen this diagram, but it only gives instructions for the E53s with nav and those with Business CD, which I have neither. I have the X13598 harness, while the diagram only shows directions for X18126 and X14118. If you go further down the pdf, you'll see the circuit diagram for X13598 and you'll see what I'm talking about how slots 3,4, and 10 are the ones I need to put the aux wires in, but slots 3 and 4 are already used.

Basically, the AUX in goes to the radio module on the small black plug on pins 3, 4 and 10. If there is something already on those pins then you should try to trace the wires to see where they go.

How can I trace the wires when they come from the same place as the other wires in the harness? Is it possible that these wires need to be relocated into slots that should have wires but don't?

This may be the same thing that happened to me.... I believe you are trying to insert the pins to a connection on the back of the on board stereo screen correct? The module that has the buttons you can select a different radio station/cd etc... If so you are trying to connect it to the wrong connector which is what I was trying to do when I did my Aux input install. I also found the same thing (the slots 3, 4 & 10 taken). The pins connect to the back of the CD module (the module where you insert the CD). You need to take that out and the connector on the back of that is where those pins go.... give that a try..

Thanks, that's exactly right. I'll try taking out that module and see how things go and I'll report back.
