DVD searching
 

I have a 2005 X5 and was wondering if it's standard practice for the nav DVD drive to always be running, searching the disc. The Power LED is also continuously flashing, though I'm not sure what that indicates. Otherwise, the navigation seems to work fine. I have noticed this in the morning after the car has been parked and off for 12+ hours.

Is this normal operation? If not, is there a fix?

Same here on my e39 but the screen flickers and if I hold down the eject button it starts up abd the power LED stays on, Finger off the eject button and it resets!! :(

The Nav computer powers up as soon as the is any iBus activity, things like opening doors, unlocking the car etc. cause this.

To check that the Nav computer is powering down, leave the boot (trunk) open so you can see the nav computer and leave it for a couple of minutes. The red light should go off, but as soon as you open or close a door the light will come on again.

its about 15-20mins on an E39...

Additionally th eEject button flashes, but no 'BMW' screen. If I start the car drive it still nothing then within 20 mins bingo all is good. Then if driven every day no issues.

The power LED does come on when the door is opened, but goes off almost immediately so no 'logo' screen. The eject button flashes and I sometimes get the default blue screen from the TV with low grade graphics.
