Just one question. Technically, how do I replace the navboot file in the CD image file?
Do I have then to downgrade from v.26 to, say v.24 and the upgrade to v.26 using the CD with modified navboot file?
Thanks.

@X5PL:
yep. you might want to go back to v26.09a, since that's only a 65mb downgrade which doesn't take that long to load. from there you'd use the modded v26 to go "back" to the most recent version, but with the enhancements.
you can use ultraiso to open the corresponding image and just replace the navboot file within.
(google for ultraiso and download the trial, that'll do)

Thanks Lebowski.
Found everything, replaced navboot, downgraded, upgraded and - it works and looks great!
Thanks.

I am thinking that while the language text and voice recognotion prompts are most likely coded elsewhere, the code that triggers them is sent via the nav. Now to try and find that code, and replace it with the language code of choice. If anyone can help.... :)

On the other hand you're writing that the cluster still has the original language, which at a second thought sounds reasonable, since the nav unit doesn't provide the cluster with the messages to display (as I understand the design - correct me if I'm wrong at this point)

The bad news is that if it's true that the cluster only gets a command telling it to which language to switch, there's no way but to recode it to use another language setup.

On the other hand, if it is only a command that is sent out from the nav unit, it might be very well coded into the navboot file as well, which might be changed. In my preferred setup that would mean that when I switch my European nav unit from D (German) to GB, I'd like it to have the US female voice and the US menu items (it's ok for the cluster to be in GB mode then.) I would then like the third option F (French) to switch the nav unit to the US male voice with the US menu items and the cluster should switch to GB.

So, if someone with the needed insight could find out how the cluster switches its language when you select the corresponding menu item on the nav unit setup screen, one might be able to "tune" that, too...

... voice recognition is done by a seperate module as far as I know, so that won't change at all I believe ... anyone who can confirm/disprove that?

I can confirm this. Voice recognition is an extra module.

Hi,

another question. A friend has lost the aux heating on the screen after installing 26.09a. He has upgraded to V26, and donw to V24, V22 and so on, but it´s still disapeared. Any suggestion?

Best regards
Alex

Yes, his dealer has to recode the MK4 to match the car/country. (And no, you can't do this by yourself and no, there's no way around this.)

@AleX5:
Has your friend waited a while after upgrading the nav unit? When I downgraded to V26.09A, I first lost a heartbeat or two 'cause aux heating, phone, code and tv where gone, but after a few minutes all items came back.

I was playing around with the settings and every time I went back to the main screen pressing "Menu," another one of the missing entries has been back in place. Looks like the nav unit had to re-scan the bus to find all features installed.

BTW: the same always happened when I went back to V26 (+toggle3D)

Same here with my Bluetooth Phone - after the 26.09 patch is installed, I loose the phone for 60 seconds or so - and my system goes into German language too.
