Custom X5world V26 with Perspective View

For those that would like a copy of my customized V26 with fully enabled Perspective View (both in Direction of Travel and Point North modes) and a custom X5world splash screen (credit to datake for the base image) that looks like this:

This is a complete V26 image (not the V26 Beta) based on the original V26 files but it has a custom navboot file that enables the Perspective mode menus and has the custom X5world splash screen and settings screen.

A few notes on the upgrade, but first a reminder that there are risks to doing the upgrade on your own, so do so knowing that risk is present. Although rare, problems can occur if update steps aren't followed properly or there are issues with the media. Such conditions can cause problems with the nav drive which may not be recoverable.

- The image files have been zipped (compressed), so you will first need to un-zip them. I use a free program called TugZip, but there are other programs such as WinZip that will also do the trick.
- Once you have uncompressed the image files you will need to burn them to a CD-R using a program called Alcohol 120%, which is available as a free 30 day trial here - http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php
- Burn the disk using a high quality CD-R disk at the lowest possible burning speed using these steps:
1. click on "image burning wizard" then click "browse" and find the folder that you extracted the two files to.
2. click on "bmw v26 X5world" (there's only one to choose) and click "open" it.
3. Under Image file information, it should list the two files. Click "Next"
4. If you didn't insert a high quality CD-R earlier, insert it and set the write speed at the slowest one (mine was 2x). Make sure the CD/DVD Recorder is set on the right drive.
5. Click "Start" and it should start burning. Once it reaches 100%, it'll be done and the disc will eject on its own.
- Once the disk is ready, follow these steps
1. Go to your vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the first position. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode.
2. Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!!), go back and eject the navigation CD from your drive unit.
3. Put in the V26 disk you created into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It says it will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade, but it doesn't take that long. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically.
4. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.

If you are already on V26 then you will have to downgrade to an older version such as V25 in order to do the V26 update with these custom enhancements. Note that doing a downgrade will put your nav drive into Euro mode (yards instead of feet and no accept screen).

Thanks, I am thinking about getting a nav so ill take this just in case. Thank you this is awsome!

Hello!

I just uploaded your software-version of V26 to my MK4 Nav-system.
I tryed a few things but i didn't find the 3D-mode option on the nav-screen.

How can I get there????

With kind regards,
Gordon

UCrewX5 03-04-2006 04:07 PM

You change modes by selecting Pointing North or Direction of travel. For example, if you are in Pointing North 2D then selecting Pointing North again will bring up Pointing North 3D (3D = Perspective mode). Pressing Pointing North again will toggle it back to 2D.

The same holds true for Direction of Travel. If you are in Direction of Travel 2D mode then pressing Direction of Travel again will toggle you into 3D mode.

Thanx!!! :)

So just to confirm, downgrading to v25 and then using the above link to upgrade works ok with no bugs so far reported on this version?

I wish I had NAV just so I could use the X5World Splash Screen.

JV 03-06-2006 03:16 PM

I have the MkIV and I downgraded to v23 because I had it on hand for my old MkIII, then loaded this custom v26 and it worked fine. Thanks, Jeff!

HELP!!

I have just downgraded from V26 to V25. Then I upgraded to V26 with perspective and your X5 world custom splash screen.

All works fine except that I have lost the 'BMW Assist' option. I think downgrading from V26 to V25 lost this option. Is there anyway of getting this back (other than going to the dealers)?

Also, if I go to the dealers and they re-program it back in (if that's what is needed), how do I change the splash screen in the future? Since I will have to downgrade to upgrade again.

Your help is much appreciated.

The perspective looks cool though!!!!

Where can I find V25 for my MKIV? I need to downgrade before upgrading. :)

broknlgs24 03-06-2006 09:40 PM

i'll try and upload it for u later tonight.
if u don't find it elsewhere first.

Thanks Jeff! So I've got a question for you--do you think it is worth the hassle to add the perspective view? Is it all that and a bag of chips?

Perspective view rocks!! However, I would suggest waiting another week or so and I believe we'll have V27 in our hands. I'm pretty sure that V27 will have perspective view active.

dave_p 03-07-2006 03:59 AM

Does anyone know how to get 'BMW assist' and 'Code' back on the menu screen - they dissapeared when I downgraded to V25, then upgraded to V26 with perspective.

Many thanks.

I hope you get some help. Sounds to me like this is a good reason to wait for a stable and BMW supported v27.BTW, post # 1000! Horray for me.

7erAce 03-07-2006 12:09 PM

No need to wait: the official V27 arrived at the BMW-dealers (at least in Germany so it should be available in the US as well) on March, 1st.

GordonW 03-07-2006 12:56 PM

Sorry Dave, I Can't help you with your problem.....

Can somebody help him????????!!!!

ekonet 03-07-2006 12:58 PM

dave, go to your dealer.. with DIS they program you.

dave_p 03-07-2006 01:04 PM

Thanks gordonW and thanks ekonet, I was beginning to think that my posts were invisable :(

I will go to the dealers tomorrow - have downgraded back to V25 (the one that was on the car when purchased in November).

I really liked messing with the splash screens though - how am I going to do this in the future without the menu items screwing up?

Regards,

Dave

GordonW 03-07-2006 01:09 PM

I never had problems with this....Maybe its better to go to the dealer wenn you installed V27 over a week. Than you have the newest version!

Dave,

Given your description I would suggest that you don't do a downgrade on your system. So if you want a custom splashscreen then what I would recommend is to get your system back to a stable level at V25 with all functions working properly. Then get your hands on a copy of V26 or V27 with the splash screen desired and update to that level. That, I believe, will keep your system working properly and give you the splash screen you desire.

Can't down load

Clicked on your ling for mega upload but could notdown l;oad the file.
What am i doing wrong or what do i need to do to access the file

gpmoore 03-08-2006 10:32 PM

Thanks! 3D ROCKS!

Thanks to all who made this upgrade possible! It is amazing how much more information the perspective view gives you -- and the speed of screen refreshes & graphics is surprisingly good. Overall, this is a really wonderful update. I'm finally excited again about what I consider to be a mediocre nav system.

I downgraded to v22 first and then back. Initially I had trouble with the upgrade (Nav CD/DVD would not read my disks) but I think it had to do with faulty burning on my CDR at home. Once I burned it at work it installed in 2 minutes.

One question -- Have others experinced loss of the split screen on Radio/Sat/Aux?

rabbutler 03-09-2006 03:36 AM

Magic

Downloaded your V26 upgrade with the customised splash screen and it looks great, so much smoother and grafix are a revelation compared to earlier versions. The screen refresh is great and very smooth.

Thanks.

tdrag97 03-09-2006 12:20 PM

how do you use the traffice info thing???

dunzzy 03-11-2006 09:45 AM

Thanks UCrewX5 for the great info and link.
I have downloaded and installed the modified V26 software and I have to say it's great.

The BMW X5World logo looks fantastic but regretfully I have only seen it once and that was when restarting the system. Most of the time I am greeted with a blank screen when starting up the vehicle.

Is this the case with anyone else ?

When do you guys see the BMW logo on the Nav screen ? and how often ?

gpmoore 03-11-2006 10:15 AM

I see it every time I start the car. Sounds like your install might not have gone right.

No more ACCEPT screen! Hip hip hooray. Funny how pushing one simple button every time I started the car irritated me so very much. I'll happily live with yards. BUT, missing split screen showing Nav info when I am on Radio/Sat/Aux. True for others here as well?

No, my split screen radio works just as it should. Here's a trick I did a while back to get this working in my X5 in the first place - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/n...s-upgrade.html

Hi, The megaupload link has expired for this due to inactivity. Could you repost it or somehow give me some idea how to
obtain it now.
Have upgraded to Ver27.1 from Ver23 but am not happy with it because of the loss of town/suburb names when in split screen view. Therefore see no reason to upgrade to Ver.29.1 as it has not resolved the issue as yet either. After reading some older threads this version may offer a compromise that may be suitable for me. Appreciate any help you can offer.
