You should use BMW DVD Navigation Map USA or Europe High not profesional, buissnies or other !!!
You can easily se in map structure if it is right
High map disc is called NAV_DB has 2 foders in root directory DB and TPD
Pro Disc is called CD_xxx and has 5 folders in root directory config, db, dbal, telemat and tpd

You seem to be the man in the know about burning discs so hopefully you can help me out.

I have had my x3 for 3 weeks and in process of upgrading sat nav. I have purchased new OS (v29.1) from fleabay and now need to upgarde maps and if poss add a few POI's. I have just downloaded 2008-1 iso file from a torrent its approx 4.3GB problem is I am not sure what to do with it.

Is it a case of just burning the downloaded .iso file to a dvd using imgburn and load into my nav dvd drive?

if I want to add POI's, do i do this seperately on seperate discs on do I have to sme how add this to the 2008.1 .iso disc I created above?

danes, you just burn the iso on a dvd-r not dvd+r, regarding POI, yes it is a same procedure fore each POI, you open iso wit iso editing soft, i use ultra iso and ad, replace files for your new POI, there is a guide, ask if you get stuck

Yep thats it, install imgburn, open the .iso and burn to blank dvd, insert into nav drive, I use 2 DVD-RW's in rotation and so far I've had no problems, some drive will work with DVD-R some with DVD+R, it's a bit hit and miss...

Yes, if you want POI's on the map disc, you need to open the 2008-1 iso and add them, check out http://www.xoutpost.com/425336-post43.html

Ok, i finally figured out what is wrong with everything.

1. wrong version of file, i had 2007.2 us pro version, it will not work with MK IV without i-drive (currently using 2007.1 us high)

2. memorex dvd-r, MK IV hates it, it will not read (maybe only my nav)

3. i had old version of imgburn i could not choose-iso-write option (used dvd decrypter)

I have an OEM DVD for the 2008-1 High - (supplied by local dealer and therefore all legit and paid for) and have tried following the routine suggested for using Imgburn to make a DVD-R for what would effectively be a backup disc and got nowhere.

The instructions all seem to work - apart from the choice:

Set Menu Mode - ISO Write

which does not appear to be in Imgburn V2.4.0.0 - or at least I can't find it.

There is also a difference of about 100Kb between the OEM DVD and the ISO image, but all the filenames match. Burn speed is always set to 1x.

I have tried two different suppliers DVD-R (Verbatim and TDK) and both discs are rejected by the Mk4 Nav. The TDK disk is rejected much quicker than the Verbatim version.

Anyone got any ideas? Have Navteq put something there that Imgburn can't see or what? Am I doing it wrong? Have I got a drive that prefers the DVD+R variant?

I'm using V29 of the OS - which was also OEM and loaded by the dealer.

try to download "DVD DECRYPTER" it has iso- write option

after download and install. open the program on the very top you will see

MODE click on it you will be able to select ISO-WRITE

This will cause a bad burn.

You must burn at the minimum speed supported by the disc, which will be much higher than 1x.

A 1x burn creates lots of errors and a bad disc.

See for yourself: do a surface scan (Scan Disk) and check Disc Quality in Nero CD-DVD Speed

Once you have made a good disc with low errors (for a CD, I expect <150 errors per CD) then try it in the car!

I bet your disc burnt at 1x produces a very poor surface scan.

Tried it a 2x - the disc packaging does not give a min or max burn speed rating.

I've also used DVD Decrypter but the results are the same - in fact with DVD Decrypter and 2x burn speed, the disc is rejected even faster. Also the advice has been to burn at the slowest possible - which I would have thought would be 1x?

No errors are being reported and I run a disc verify after each burn - should that not show up any problems?

EDIT - max speed appears to be 2x for both DVD burners with these discs from TDK and Verbatim.

I'm going to have one more go with a different machine, OS and burner.

Has anyone been able to get this to work on a 2008-1 yet? Is there a trick setting that needs to be enabled - rather than using the defaults for the two burning packages?

ImgBurn will tell you the burn speeds supported by the disc. This is embedded in the disc info and can be read by ImgBurn

An error-free verify means very little. All you have determined is that the PC can read the disc and correct for any errors. But your disc may still have lots of errors on it, that the nav may not be able to correct.

You need to do a surface scan and check all sectors, using Nero CD-DVD Speed. This tells you the quality of the disc.

Untill you do this, you will have no idea how good the CD or DVD is.
