Just installed Navi - can't adjust clock ???

Hi

I have just installed navi (MK-IV, BM24 & 4:3) in my E39 528i 1996, and it seems to work allright (haven't been drivning hte car yet), I can control the DSP, CD-Changer, Phone etc.

BUT I can't adjust the time / date - well, I can adjust it, but it won't "save" it ??

Anyone got a clue ?

After some more testing, I can add, that it seems that all communication between the instrument cluster and the board monitor is missing ?
(the boardmonitor doesn't show outdoor temp, remaining fuel etc.)

The car is factory-fittet with, DSP, High Instrument Cluster, Phone, etc.

The is my first message her - NICE forum !!!!

Best Regards

You have no ibus data connection from the nav / audio system to the rest of the car.

If you fitted the retrofit loom, check your ibus connection.

Alternatively, if you connected everything properly, did you recode the car so that it knows you now have navigation fitted? If the car does not know the nav is fitted, it will not send the right data down the databus, and it will not listen for the right commands (like 'change the time').

Go to a BMW dealer, and recode using their software. They need togo down the 'retrofit' path in their diaagnostic software

Hello Jochen

I used a cable from a car which had both DSP and Navigation, so 'm not sure if I got the IBUS (which colorcode does it have in a E39 1996 ?)

I assume that the IBUS worked since I can control the DSP amplifier and I can change the laguange displayed in the instrumentcluster from the board monitor

A friend of mine, told that theres supposed to be a connection between the instrumentcluster and the bardmonitor - but he coundn't remember exactly

I haven't recoded the car yet

Without SA555 (High Cluster), you can't:

- set time
- see time
- set date
- see date
- see arival time
- change fromt °C to °F
- turn on memo
- turn on aux ventilation
- use the 'code' feature

The Rest should work normaly.

edit:
====

To set and see the time, you can install a MID. With a MID connected it works.

Then you probably do not have the high instrument cluster, or if you do, it is coded for MID and not for Navigation

You will need to fit the high instrument cluster (if not fitted) and code the car for navigation

Hi, i'm beginning to install a retrofit nav-sat on my E39 525d Touring my2002, it come from factory with low cluster.
I've discovered this possibilty too by trying to connect my old MID on the I-Bus cable dedicated for the cd-charger in the rear box. Have you got any suggestion for a better way to interface the MID??? If I fit a MID with BC key in the lower right side, is any possibility to view on the monitor the temperature and other data displayed in the low cluster??
Thanks,
Tobia

I had mine in the glove box, where the original MID wire is connected. But of course you can put it in the trunk, too.

Ahm... Take the MID an put it in the glove box. Can't you imagine that, is it so unbelieveable? ;)

I have a high cluster now, so there's no need to have a MID connected now. And I didn't take a photo from it, sorry.
