Doing it manuals is such a pain and soooo many files to change.
Using Pimp My Nav makes extremely easy to do.

Jochen,
This would not be the first time that this forum has had a hidden
agenda of some sort which is why my line of questioning was structured the way it was.
Unfortunately for people like myself who are seeking straight answers and
the idea that they can get notional help from other forum members
without excessive brain strain is always going to be a challenge.

The truth is out there somewhere right !! :dunno: I will find out eventually with BabyMakingWeathers additional help I have no doubt.

I would like to point out also that Navcoder was a "hoot" and was worth whatever the effort it took to get the outcomes it delivered. Take a bow "good man". ;) ;)

Are you telling me they never really did land on the moon?

I don't subscribe to conspiracy theories, and I am well aware that not everyone is like me...

You nearly had me there Jochen. Speed camera positions on the moon
are a little out of normal driving range but for some the road
never ends so they say!!

What are they charging for "Lunar" premium unleaded up there?

If I can get Australian camera positions on my MKIV nav unit that will
happily send me into orbit. :D

Has anyone else got any pimp my nav happy experiences they can share ?

You can load speed cameras on to the Mk4 map. You can do it by hand or you can use PimpMyNav

By hand is a real pain, especially if you have no experience.

But adding Speed Cameras, or any other POI data, can be done,

I added 300 of my company locations in different categories onto my map, I did it by hand before PimpMyNav existed.

I have viewed the pimp nav site and it obviously looks straight forward but this might be just self promoting on their part. It sounds like you have used the utility regularly, are there any limitations that might save others time and frustration that you could share with us?

What nav firmware revision are you running it on?

Also seems to be a number of alternate sites that the camera locations can be found, which one are you using ?

Please excuse the opening sarcasim ;) ;)

Sorry, I'm not able to oblige you with my opinion, because as KiwiJochen says, I'm somewhat biased towards this tool. However he seems to have given you the independent view you were after. ;)

I'm personally using speed camera info from PocketGpsWorld, as I have free membership there (obtained by submitting a new fixed camera location). However there are some others you could try too, although I can't comment on them having not used them. Don't bother with the free ones as their data is too inaccurate and out of date to be of any use.

Can I ask something regarding Pimp Your Nav?

Am I correct in thinking that if was to use this method to add Speed Camera POI to my Australian Nav Disc (based on Carin DB file structure) that it will only add the Speed Camera POI but automatically make me lose all the other POIs that were on the disc as a side effect of changing the file structure? (as the POIs currently stored in Carin DB will not be used)

As much as I would like to add speed cameras, if it means losing all my other POIs and having to load them all again one by one this may not be so good.

Can you please clarify if this is indeed the case or any other advantages/disadvantages of using Pimp My nav?

At the risk of hijacking the v14 map discussion thread...

If you have a HIGH map of Australia (not Professional), then you are correct that the built-in POI will not be accessible as these are contained in the map database itself, rather than separately in the \Tpd directory. However, given the limited quality and number of POI you get with the original map vs the complete freedom to add whatever is relevant to you or your location, guess which option I choose? Alternatively, if you still think you're losing something, I've heard of someone that imported the original BMW POI that he obtained from the Professional edition of the Australian map.

That it is correct

But note that it is not a PimpMyNav problem, it is the way the Mk4 nav is designed.

So the issue is a Mk4 issue - if you want to lay blame for this anywhere, lay it on VDO and their design :-)

So where exactly does that leave us? With some fictitious person who had the ability to import something we don't know anything about but who can't be named and is unlikely going to help.:(

I don't think anyone with a HIGH map would like to part with their money to buy Pimp My Nav to install one feature and then have other POI features taken away that they allready had previously.:banghead:

If the product has the ability to compliment the original without detracting from it then show me the way !!!

Who is this fictitious person you refer to?

If you have no desire to add your own custom POI to your map, then this tool is clearly not for you. However there are many other Nav users that feel differently, so please respect that.
