Mk4 computer repair

Has anyone in the US found a repair shop that can work on the Mk4? Seems to be lots of options in Europe but I'd like to see if I can find something closer to home. Thanks!

what are the fault sypmtoms?

Zogger 06-04-2008 11:56 AM

"Error reading CD/DVD" I tried using the DVD from my E39 and get the same error so I assume it's the drive.

BTW I also tried an old CD and got the error message no disc in the drive.

90% chance it is the laser

Buy the laser from the Dutch shop, and then take laser and nav to a local electronics firm that has experience replacing lasers in DVD mechanisms.

This is a cheaper way then replacing the whole nav.

Thanks will do. I've found a few places that claim to repair nav computers but no one was less than $600.00. The Dutch guy will sell me a new drive and laser for $225.00 and he says I can replace it myself so we'll see. I'll post how it turns out.

Extremely easy to replace whole drive:

1. Remove top cover of nav (clipped on)
2. Remove 4 x torx screws that hold nav drive in place
3. Unplug nav drive connector
4. Fitting is a reversal of removal

I just did it:

My MK4 was starting to die

http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(4).JPG
Take the cover off
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(5).JPG
Unscrew 4 torx bolts and remove flatcable

http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(8).JPG
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(9).JPG
And another cable pull off
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(10).JPG
And there you have your complete laser unit
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(11).JPG
I searched for a brandnew DVD M3 4.6
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(12).JPG
Brandnew one for €145 bought at http://www.navigatie-onderdelen.nl/
New vs old:

Place it back.

http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(17).JPG
Cables back
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(18).JPG
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(19).JPG
4 torx bolts screw
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(21).JPG
The cover back on
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(22).JPG
http://www.wakeboarding.be/mk4/mk4laser%20(23).JPG
And your MK4 is back new again. Since then he is much faster and no reading errors anymore.
