Nav OS V26 has been released

Thanks to Ferri, V26 is available. I loaded it this morning on my X5 with a MkIV nav computer and it went as smooth as silk. Below are some pictures showing the update progress and the end result.

Note that this update is for MkIV nav drives only. If you have a MkIII, do not even consider using this release because it is reported to have some issues that could render your nav drive inoperable.

A few notes on the upgrade, but first a reminder that there are risks to doing the upgrade on your own, so do so knowing that risk is present. Although rare, problems can occur if update steps aren't followed properly or there are issues with the media. Such conditions can cause problems with the nav drive which may not be recoverable.

- The image files have been rar'd (compressed), so you will first need to un-rar them. I use a program called TugZip, but there are other programs such as WinRAR that will also do the trick.
- Once you have uncompressed the image files you will need to burn them to a CD-R using a program called Alcohol 120%, which is available as a free 30 day trial here - http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php
- Burn the disk using a high quality CD-R disk at the lowest possible burning speed using these steps:
1. click on "image burning wizard" then click "browse" and find the folder that you extracted the two files to.
2. click on "bmw v26 software" (there's only one to choose) and click "open" it.
3. Under Image file information, it should list the two files and the total size is "288.66 MB". Click "Next"
4. If you didn't insert a high quality CD-R earlier, insert it and set the write speed at the slowest one (mine was 2x). Make sure the CD/DVD Recorder is set on the right drive.
5. Click "Start" and it should start burning. Once it reaches 100%, it'll be done and the disc will eject on its own.
- Once the disk is ready, follow these steps
1. Go to your vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the first position. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode.
2. Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!!), go back and eject the navigation CD from your drive unit.
3. Put in the V26 disk you created into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It says it will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade, but it doesn't take that long. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically.
4. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.
Here are some screen shots from my update to V26

Thanks Jeff! But please forgive me for my ignorance, I'm a bit confused and have not done an update just yet. Your instructions talk about the "cd", but don't you mean "DVD"? Also, is this just an OS upgrade, i.e. no map updates? I do have the MkIV system in my X - it's a 2004. Thanks again!

Good questions (for a rookie ;) )

I do mean CD, as the operating system is loaded to the nav drive via a CD and not a DVD. But this update is for the DVD-based MkIV ONLY!!!

And yes, this is an OS upgrade and not a map update. The lastest map disk for the U.S. is version 2005.2 and is not contained on the download link provided.

broknlgs24 09-17-2005 01:20 PM

U mention Alcohol 120%. is this a necessity or could one use Nero?

X5Jay 09-17-2005 01:20 PM

Great - thanks for the clarification. And yes, I am a rookie, but not for too much longer! Downloading now...

Is the latest map update available on-line as well? I recently got a flyer from BMW saying a new one is available, but I certainly don't want to pay the premium for it... Thanks again, Jeff!

broknlgs24 09-17-2005 01:23 PM

i was under the impression that if ur still under warranty, u can have the NAV Maps upgraded at the dealer for free.:dunno:

mogsyman 09-17-2005 01:25 PM

Can you use this to upgrade a UK spec/delivered 2005 system?

Ferri 09-17-2005 01:32 PM

Hi guyz,

- Yes, burning only with alcohol 120% and with slow burning speed!
- Yes, you have to burn it on a CD
- Yes, if you're under warranty the upgrade is free!
- The upgrade is for all countries and all spec/delivered systems!

!!!! ONLY FOR MKIV !!!!

Jeff, big THANKS!! for all your help and this website... What a big change to navigation screen... Not Lexus or Acura class, but anything is better than we had.. Mark

Oh my mouth is really watering now. Just downloading. Has anybody in the UK done this yet or will I be the first? I mean on this forum, not in the UK as a whole.

Kewl X5 09-17-2005 02:10 PM

If you have the DVD NAV system, there are NO free DVD Map upgrade....however, I'm sure you can find someone here who can help you out in getting the most updated DVD map.... ;)

Nevertheless, the NAV OS (the operating system, not the map disk) should be upgraded for free during your car's warranty period.

NAV OS V26 just came out and some of the dealers don't even have it. Crevier BMW service has heard about it, but they haven't officially gotten it yet.

I just called Momentum BMW and they said they might have 27.1. I'll see what I can get out of them. :)

I'm going to download v26 right now and install it.

I love upgrading things!

MkIII and V26

Hi All,

I know some people have said "don't install V26 on a MkIII", but from someone on anoher board said something about it working on a MkIII, but after 2 minutes it stops working.. Sounds like b*ll to me... Anyone given it a go on a MkIII yet...

I reckon it will work on a MkIII, anyone willing to give it a go...

phil47 09-17-2005 03:05 PM

Even though I'm still under warranty, I'm going to try the upgrade myself anyways (can't stand to wait).

Anybody know if I will have the option to switch to metric units (ie. meters..not feet) at some point in the upgrade. My current system reads out in meters as I'm Canadian and I'd prefer to stick with it. Maybe it's a service menu change...or must be recoded at the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

but would you have a faster link to the file? the thing is moving along so slowly!

Yes, it's true for the OS but not for the map disk. However, at this point V26 is not available to dealers in the U.S. or Canada. So if you want the dealer to do it for you then you'll have to wait.

Hey, it's a free service so what do you expect :dunno: Not to mention there's probably over a hundred people simultaneously trying to download it right now, so I'm sure that's a factor as well.

You do have the option to pay for the Premium service at Megaupload.com to speed it up, if desired. It all depends on how patient you are ;)

Just finished the install and came back from my test run. No glitches whatsoever folling Jeff's instructions and advice on the applications. Very nice improvement indeed - love the way the map scrolls a lot more smoothly now - feel like I'm in an airplane! :)

Thanks again Ferri & Jeff! Success!!!

V26 downloaded, uncompressed, burned, labeled, installed and test driven - PERFECT!

Thank you Ferri & Jeff for your support in providing a very sought after upgrade!

Yesterday, my local dealer drew a blank on the subject and the upgrade was nowhere to be found in cyberspace either. What a difference a day makes!

Well worth it!

Hi! My first post after all. Thank you very much for uploading the image. Great work of you guys at x5world!!!

AlpineMsix 09-17-2005 06:19 PM

Okay so i load up Tugzip and it shows two files bmw...mdf and bmw....mds.. do i want to open those files because when i do open them, it tries to open them through notepad and it just freezes. Or would i want to just select both files at once, and then "extract" them to a diff folder. and then burn those two files onto a cd?

To make sure is the file supposed to be only one file that is "bmw v26software" and its supposed to be an mdf file that is 288.66megs correct?

kirkX5m 09-17-2005 06:25 PM

all correct
you need to get alcohol 120% soft next
then itll be able to burn that image file onto a cd for you

Yes, this is what you want to do. Alcohol 120% will take those 2 files you extracted and use them to burn the CD.

AlpineMsix 09-17-2005 07:00 PM

DID IT!! honesly i dont know notice a BIGG difference. but the map itself looks much much much better, gives it a more "technology at its best" look or something :)

mstevens 09-17-2005 07:05 PM

Use extreme caution!

I just killed my wife's X3's nav system (which is a Mark IV DVD-based system) trying to upgrade it. Here's what happened:

1) I downloaded the image file using the above link.
2) I burned it using Alcohol 120% version 1.9.2 at 8x (the lowest I could go - 1x was not an available option) on a good-quality CDR using the default options.
3) I booted up the nav system, then went to the back of the car, ejected the nav data disk and inserted the disk I'd burned. Since there was a message on-screen saying there was no disk (which appeared when I ejected the nav data disk) and asking me to press "OK", I went back to the front and pressed the right knob. At no time was the key turned off.

At this point I got the expected black screen with orange text saying "Note: CD-ROM in navigation computer, Loading software" but did NOT get the white and blue screen that usually follows showing the progress bar. Instead the screen went black and stayed that way. I've done about a dozen nav upgrades over the years, starting with my 2001 330xi, in 3 different BMW's so I've seen all sorts of things happen. I decided just to let it ride and that perhaps the update was occurring anyway. I stood at the back of the car waiting to see if the disk ejected for about half an hour, then gave up and hit the Eject button.

Fortunately, the update disk did eject so I was able to put the nav data disk back in. It would have been kind of embarassing to take it to the dealer with the pirated update disk in it! I also went back to the front and hit the right knob for good measure in case it was waiting for an "OK", but nothing happened. After letting the car sit long enough for the DVD drive to power down I turned on the ignition, but the nav screen is still black.

I guess we'll take it to the dealer with a mysterious malfunction to have them repair it under warranty. I will NOT be trying to update my Z4's system, at least for a while. The X3 DVD drive is MUCH more accessible, and if I got a disk stuck in the Z4's drive I'd have to disassemble a major part of the car to get at the drive to try to remove the disk. (I know this since my nephew once stuck some sort of disk he'd burned into the drive and killed it so that the nav system would not work nor eject the disk.)

It's clear that several people have used the same file for a successful update, and I've had success many times before with other versions. However, I'd urge great caution until a larger number of successes is seen.

same thing happened to me when i upgraded to v25 a few months ago :dunno:

When upgrades go wrong...

Hi All,

Just downloaded the V26 upgrade, burnt at the lowest speed I could in Alcohol 120% (8x), and my Mk4 upgrade went fine..

But just to say if you trash your nav system, don't worry, as I've had the panic attacks a number of times, when upgrading my Mk3 in my other car, all the way from V17 to V25..

I've had the black screen, and also when the nav computer disappears from the system altogether, and you get the menu with the blue background, and the horrible chunky orange text, and no navigation option, and also a stuck CD..

In all cases where an upgrade has gone wrong, I've simply turned the car off, and left it for 15 mins, re-burnt a CDR, gone back to the car, and tried again. Worked everytime...

When the CD got stuck, there was no need to goto the dealers to get it removed. The solution is to press and hold the eject button on the nav computer, until the light on the eject button stops flashing..about 2 mins, and then let go of the eject button, and immediately press it again. The nav computer then ejects the disc.. re-burn, and try the upgrade again

V26 on Mk3

Has anyone tried the V26 upgrade on a Mk3 yet? I know some people have said not to try, but on another forum I read that it does work, and the upgrade went OK, but they had a few problems with the software after 2 mins of use..

Just wondering if anyone else has upgraded a Mk3 to V26, before I go out and upgrade mine..

My Mk4 upgrade on my other car went fine..

Just completed the update exactly as instructed on this website on my '05 X5...worked flawlessly. As for my concerns regarding metric/imperial...no problem...handled in the Settings menu.

Very happy with results...big difference. Map now has the high-end Acura/Lexus look it always needed. Especially like being able to Disable Icons. Big thanks to all those who made it available here.

V26 Nav OS update completed!

The Blank Screen is about 5-10 seconds is longer than before :dunno: , but nevertheless, the proper "upgrading screen" appeared.

The lowest speed Alcohol would allow me with either of my drives was 4X and it worked fine.

BTW, I like how the freeways/highways are labeled I10 and CA60, instead of 10 and 60, etc.

Graphics are much better and smoother....

I will upgrade our fellow local BMW buddies NAV system tomorrow. :)

V26 Features:

* Anti-Aliased graphics to smooth out text, and new 3d-effect (not true 3d) graphics. Text on the map is now a lot easier to read. V26 has bigger and better looking fonts! Just think DOS, and then think Windows TrueType fonts... :-)

* New graphic symbols with 3d shadow effect i.e. it is now a checkered flag instead of a white circle for the destination, all graphics symbols look much better.

* Car symbol is no longer a blue circle with an arrow in it, it is now a nice white circle, with shadow effect, and a little blue arrow direction of travel indicator in it.

* new color schemes

* If available in your country, TMC is easier to get to, and you can now turn on / off specific TMC messages.

* When in Direction of Travel mode, the vehicle symbol is always central on the map, and always faces directly up the screen i.e. you always drive up the screen. The map twists and scrolls under the vehicle symbol i.e. if you drive down a road and come to a junction and turn left, the vehicle symbol stays facing up the screen, while the map rotates underneath.

* The Direction of Travel mode works on higher scales, whereas it didn't in prior versions.

* You can toggle on and off the Points of Interest icons

it's amazing to see v26 spread like wildfire all over the world thanks to xoutpost.com...again, bravo to the founders!

I read on another board where someone updated their Mk3 with the V26 disk but it still only took it to version 3-1/63, which is the same as you would get from any of the releases from V22 through V25.

My suspicion is that the new features and graphics are limited to the MkIV and the MkIII owners will not be getting this anytime soon (if ever).

You need to have activated some POIs (ie. Gas stations) FIRST to need to turn them off.

Other than taking a bit more time to refresh/redraw the map, I'm not seeing any problems (yet) with this OS. Anybody experiencing the redraw problems noted by a few early adopters?

You didn't just burn the files right to a CD, did you?

The files are image files that Alcohol 120% uses to make an exact duplicate of the original. You need to select the option in Alcohol 120 that allows you to make a disk from an image. Point Alcohol 120 to the folder where you uncompressed the 2 files from the download and let it make your CD.

Kris@modmynav 09-18-2005 06:28 PM

^ I used Alcohol 120% also,
but not sure that if I did correct,
can anyone tell me how to use alcohol 120%?

Thank you!

"If you have the DVD NAV system, there are NO free DVD Map upgrade....however, I'm sure you can find someone here who can help you out in getting the most updated DVD map.... ;) "

Hey, hows it going all, this is my first post but I have been reading and learning alot about my new X5 here for about 3 weeks now. Great site guys, VERY usefull. BTW I have a 2003 BMW X5 4.6iS in Titanium Silver, and all I can say is WOW, very fast :p I love it. Well, I just did this upgrade, everything went great, what a difference, then I read the post above. I was wondering if anyone could help me get the upgraded map software. Maps are avalible on the internet I have found, but the all seem to be european, not North American. Any help would be fantastic guys, thanks a bunch, and again GREAT site.!

Obioban 09-18-2005 07:12 PM

Mac guys: change the extension of the larger file to ".iso" and you can use it using the burn image section of toast.

I'm also having the slower redraw. Pretty sure that means everyone will be, though

godeacs06 09-18-2005 08:37 PM

There's been 715 downloads of this file since it was uploaded 33 hours ago, consuming over 100 GB of bandwidth. Are you offering to host it?

Start the download and come back a few hours later, or better yet check it again in the morning. It's worth the wait. If you can't wait, pay a few bucks and upgrade to the Premium account on MegaUpload.

ricky.agrawal 09-18-2005 10:38 PM

Seriously though, I just set it to run overnight.
Next time though, let's distribute it through eMule. That's what I did for a few months with the navigation DVD and IMO it worked very well.

Try this -

ed2k://|file|BMW%20Navigation%20v26.rar|143699795|697FAC7 91F5FE01C18B6F2C9F9
CDAC3A|h=H6AOIGNCLZOCMPAVKC5PWJJWMECTPDRN|/

I don't use eMule or eDonkey, personally, so that's not a good distribution method for me. Someone on the bmwnav group that grabbed the file from Megaupload.com uploaded it to the link above.

godeacs06 09-18-2005 10:51 PM

I don't use emule or edonkey either.

ricky.agrawal 09-18-2005 11:06 PM

Oh I already have it, as much as I love you guys, I'm not going to distribute it again.. :D
In the future though, if I'm in on the loop early you know I'll be one of the first to help distribute it... :D

godeacs06, you might not use emule or edonkey, but I'm sure at least a few others due. :)

kirkX5m 09-18-2005 11:28 PM

edonkey is freakin awesome!
keep it on the DL, we dont want the whole world to know about it!!!! :D

godeacs06 09-18-2005 11:39 PM

Alright, update successful. Wow, what a difference the UI is...everything looks so much cleaner!! :wow:

Agus 09-19-2005 07:27 AM

Hello to all. I have updated my navigator to version 26  and wanted to know as the information icons activate.
Thanks ;)

godeacs06 09-19-2005 08:38 AM

How do I turn off the info icons? I do not need to know where every gas station is located in town....

phil47 09-19-2005 12:01 PM

POIs and related icons are activated when you try to look for a POI in the Information submenu under GPS Nav (under General Destinations if I recall). Even if you don't pick one and activate guidance, it will show the icons.

To turn them off, there is now a Disable Icons selection in the same General Destinations submenu.

I saw that during the install, but didn't want to risk playing with it at the time. I'd love to give Laura (that what my kids call the nav lady) a British accent. I wonder if it can be changed without doing a re-install? :dunno:

I just followed Jeff's post and everything went well. Here's a step by step starting from alcohol 120:

1. click on "image burning wizard" then click "browse" and find the folder that you extracted the two files to.

2. click on "bmw v26 software" (there's only one to choose) and click "open" it.

This is how I did it. Hope it helps.

I did the upgrade while cleaning up some of the wiring for my stereo project. Went exactly as described and it rocks!
Since I have successfully completed the upgrade, I have the CD that I'm willing to ship to someone who doesn't have the time/patience/resources to download it. Send me a PM if interested.

ChitownX5 09-19-2005 11:18 PM

Upgrade Success

This was one of these easiest upgrades! Took under 2 hours to download the image files, about 15 minutes to burn the CD and under 2 minutes to upgrade the OS. And so far based on the improved graphics it appears to be a worthwhile upgrade.

BTW - I have a 2005 4.4i Sport with Nav, DSP and adjustable ride height.

Thanks to X5world and all the members that made this possible.

Cheers!

P.S. - I wish someone would do the same for the Navteq 2005.2 DVD!

M3Law 09-20-2005 12:32 AM

Help!, My attempt left the Nav non operable...

Followed directions to the letter, TugZip, Alcohol 120%, etc. When the disc was loaded and the software uploading, the system read "error on disc, press OK to acknowledge and remove" Afterwards the Nav screen is just blank/black. 24hours no different. Reburned CD and tried, nothing happens. Today purchased new discs and reburned; no difference. Nav does not boot up when the key is turned to 1 (or 2 for that matter) and when installing the disc, nothing happens.

Is there anyway to restart the software upload or is taking the car to the dealer the only option at this point.

I have read others who have had problems and reported that they just uploaded the previous version and retried the update, but my Nav is completely non operational. I also don't have the SW 24 or 25 version.

Oh, the car is a 2003 M3.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks.

Another update done and all working thanks again especially Silent X5 I still would be messing around with those two files still. If you had not explained it!!

To all those who have not done it yet If you follow the instructions on this site it is very easy and only took 5 mins to update in the car. And for those of you in the UK do your upload at 9am was twice a quick as doing it in the evening or for you guys in the states do it in the middle of the night. Thanks again.

I just spoke to my friend who is a BMW Tech has not even heard of version 26 let alone updated any cars yet

So far everyone that I've seen that had a problem has been able to recover the drive. 99% of the time it was casused by an inferior CD-R media.

You can obtain older OS versions by looking here - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=88.

As long as you can get the CD out of the drive, there's a high probability that you'll be able to recover the nav drive.

Just for the safe of recording and burning, for the ones who made a perfect instalation, can you give me your Alcohol 120% options you used for recording ?
Or are you using the defaults ?

Whats your Write Method option in the Burning Wizard ?
And which DataType you use to burn ?

Thanks in advance...

Sorry for the basic questions, but I'm pretty new at this. I'm currently at v23. Can I upgrade straight to v26? If I can, will it include any updates for the versions in between?

I just burned the disc with Alcohol 120, but the only option I had to change it to was 48x from maximum. I have a Sony DVD burner to do both DVD's and CD's. Do you think that will be a problem? Thanks.

There have been some questions regarding the highway icons now showing up in crappy boxes, rather than the actual highway icons. Someone posted a picture with the updated software here, which actually shows the real highway icons:

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/7601/nav0nx.jpg

However, every other picture of the upgraded software I've seen shows these boxy, crappy looking, highway signs. (See HWY 18). Is there a setting that controls this feature, or could it be that this differs between BMW models?

Nice. Thanks for doing that.

I'm pretty sure that some folks with v25 had the actual highway icons and upon a subsequent upgrade to v26 their icons turned to boxes. I'm holding off on upgrading until I can verify that the good icons will stay.

UCrewX5 09-20-2005 07:46 PM

The HWY 18 is a Canadian highway. All of my U.S. highways show the actual highway icons. The island that I live on is right inbetween the U.S. mainland and Canada, so I frequently have both displayed on my screen.

You need to select 'Information' and navigate to either 'Info on Location' or 'Info on Destination' and select a category (it needs to be the lowest level of the category to show the respective icons though).

For example, to show Petrol Stations, select 'Vehicle -> Petrol Stations'. A menu listing all the petrol stations will display. Now, instead of selecting one of them, just get back to the main menu by selecting the 'back' button until you're back to the beginning.

Now when you have the map visible, all petrol station icons will appear. If you select a different category the icons for that particular group will appear. If you want to then remove the icons, select 'Disable Icons' from the 'Information' menu.

Hope this helps. :)

Just for the record... first time I tried to do the update, It said loading software and then the screen went blank (before the progress bar).

I left it alone for like 15 minutes, no luck. I turned the car off and played with the eject button for a couple of minutes and finally the CD came out. Tossed it in the trunk and left it alone for a couple of hours.

I came back with a newly burned CD a couple of hours later, turned the key to position 1 and inserted the newly burned CD and left the car alone. Came back 15 minutes later, it said the upgrade was complete and to push OK.

Problem solved.

Need help downloading V26.rar

I have tried twice to download the file from the Megaupload site, both times after about 12 hours (I have dial-up) I get to about 90% and the download stops. I have trieded 2k://|file|BMW%20Navigation%20v26.rar|143699795|697FAC7 91F5FE01C18B6F2C9F9

Great SW UD/Thanks and Info

Guys- thanks for the detailed directions. I burned at 10X, lowest my system could go, worked like a champ! When I first looked at the map I was momentarily concerned that the US Interstate Highways had labels that were just blue boxes that said I95 etc...I figured this was due to my older maps, 2-2004. After a mile or less of driving the highways changed to the standard Red/White/Blue shield-shaped icons.
I expected this to be an improvement in my 04 X5 4.4, but it is really awesome. Now I understand the previosu remark that 'You feel like you're in an airplane'....whether at 400' scale or 10 Miles, the map rotation when set on 'Travel Direction Up' is really impressive. I found myself staring at the map display in every turn and watching the map smoothly pivot under the car. I also like the Checkered Flag at the destination. Very cool update. Thanks again!!!

I'm also having the slower redraw. Pretty sure that means everyone will be, though

If you did this burn process on your Mac would you be kind enough to provide the exact step by step process for other Mac users? It would be appreciated.

Anyone got this info

Jackay 09-25-2005 08:11 PM

Thanx for the help there, nitramluap. I never realised that I can do that on my NAV!After a whole year of driving around in the X, I still haven't got every bit of it! LOL!

OK files extracted with stuffit Expander 10.0. Obioban suggested changing the extension mfd to ISO. Which part of toast do you drag these files to and whats the next step?

MogulB 09-26-2005 04:09 PM

Mac Users, this is how I burned the nav os cd:

1) change the mdf to iso
2) in Toast, under the Utilities menu, select Mount Disc Image and choose the "bmw v26 software.iso" file.
This creates a disc image on your desktop called "NAV_SW" with 54 items contained within it.
3) Go back to Toast and select the Copy icon (from Data/Audio/Copy/Other)
4) Go to the pull down menu next to "Image File" and select the nav software (you should see the cd icon and "NAV_SW" pop up
5) Click Record
6) select your speed, click Write Disc and Voila! Works like a charm. Good luck...

morbus 09-26-2005 04:26 PM

Has anyone of you got an idea of how to change the statup-logo (bmw or mini)?

Quicksilver 09-26-2005 05:54 PM

Thanks very much. What did you do with the mds file? I notice you did not
mention it in your burning instructions.

I know people have been seeking an answer to this for quite some time, but I am not aware of anyone that has figured out if it can be done or how to do it. :dunno:

MogulB 09-26-2005 07:13 PM

Quicksilver, you simply re-type the .mdf part of the file with .iso. Kinda like when you change .jpg to .pct or vice versa. It's just a matter of renaming the file type so that Toast can see it to mount it. Hope that helps :)

OK Thanks for that. The burn is complete. Now we just head to the X5 and load it.

Just a couple of additions. ( I needed these cause I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.)

After the download from the download link you will see V26.rar on your desktop, I used Stuffit expander to uncompress the files.

You will end up with one folder that says V26 folder on your desktop. Inside that folder are two files an mdf file and an mds file. Ucrew is correct; ignore the mds file. Now continue with the instructions from MogulB.

Result? The X5 downloaded the update so fast I turned my head and it was done. Thanks to all here at X5World. You are the best.

To let you all know that this is working on a European (Belgium) X3.

I burned the CD on maximum speed with Alcohol120%. If you use good CD's there is really no need to burn at a lower speed.

Thanks for the software guys

You need to select the "set" function on the main menu of your NAV display. The latest version (v26) is 4-1/60. If you have any other number for the last two digits, you dont have the latest. As a matter of fact, you propably dont have the latest because v26 was released this month!

Folks,
Upgraded to V26 without issue and yes the map UI is clearly superior to previous versions. However, i am now missing the current street location on the rightside of the split screen. Has anyone else noticed this?

From the screen shots on this forum, it appears that this feature has been removed.

2005/06 X5 Navigation

I'm going to be leasing a new X5 4.4i this month and..to be honest..the only thing I dont like about the vehicle is the navigation system. I have played with the Nav on a friends X5 who has a 2004 model. Will there be any changes to the nwe X5's Nav that I will get over the 2004 model's? If so, what are they? Thanks for ur help. This forum rocks by the way.

I just checked mine...it still displays the street I am on so it doesn't seem to have changed... :dunno:

Actually, I've often thought that the info you get on the right side of the split screen when you are not actively receiving nav guidance is next to useless. I wish there was an option to choose the info on either side of the split screen...ie. map, guidance, radio, CD, MID data, etc. (unless there is and I've missed it).

carlos3679 10-03-2005 04:25 PM

upgraded mine and it worked like a charm, the lines are thicker, the text is clearer and you have a cool little flag at the end of your destination. I have seen some people saying that there is not much of a difference between the two so I took some pics to see the before and after for myself,

I have the same level of detail on the right side of the screen as I did in prior versions. The picture I posted was from when the vehicle was in my garage, so it didn't show the street. Once I am on a street, that detail is displayed.

Ditto.

Huge difference. It is so much easier to read. When you have it in the navigational mode in split screen mode, I like how the arrow on the left rotates as you turn the car.

DinanX5 10-06-2005 08:40 AM

Just noticed this thread yesterday... :tsk:
I followed the instructions provided, and everything worked just as described. (Thanks Jeff, and everyone!) The anti-aliased graphics are a nice improvement in clarity, and the smooth scrolling is very cool.

If you already used the V24 disk then you are at 3-1/63 and the V26 would provide nothing for your MkIII (it takes the MkIII to 3-1/63 as well)

Pzycho 10-09-2005 03:20 PM

I am getting the file now from NCX at a very fast speed (300k/sec). This should hopefully fix me right up. Thanks NCX!

Turn on your car. Go to your NAV Screen, go to your Main Menu. Go to settings and see what version you have at the upper right hand corner of the screen...
Then go to this link to decode the information: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=59

Easiest way to burn is to use Daemon tools (free) to mount the image, it creates virtual drives. Then use Nero to copy the cd, I burn at 52x with no problems

Well, watch your wording...

The dealers will provide free software updates, but NOT to the MAPS, only the o/s.

Also, good luck finding a dealer that knows anything about what you read here. My dealer was arguing that he "just" got the V25 software upgrade. The Service Manager told me I was mistaken about the rev level and that I must mean V25...

I'm not sure who you were directing the "watch your wording" to. I'll assume it wasn't me since I tried to be very clear that this is an OS upgrade, not a nav disk update :dunno:

With respect to dealers disputing that V26 is out, show them a copy of this and they will tuck tail quickly - http://www.xoutpost.com/pdf/v26.pdf :D

I just installed the upgrade to my 04 X5. Awsome, man is this better. It is beginning to become a system that will command some respect... BMW, try the Audi A4 Nav (Aisin) This is your goal! You're almost there with this upgrade!

hvisser4 11-08-2005 03:56 PM

Good work!!!

Just done a successful upgrade on my 03/2005 (UK) 4.8is with the software downloaded from this post

I must admit I was a bit nervy about doing this myself at first.

I work at the local BMW dealer and thought at first I'll just get them to do it since I am still under warranty just in case it doesn't work and I have to take it in to them and have to explain what I done.

But I thought, "No way. He who dares wins!" and so I followed the instructions given here to the letter and a few minutes later I now have the latest version of the software appearing to run like a dream.

The only difference on mine to the screen shots shown earlier in this post was that the language choices on mine were different (D;GB;F) and it only took a couple of minutes max.

Not having used it extensively (since the upgrade a few minutes ago) I don't know of any potential side effects, but it looks good so far and I'll post any percieved 'glitches'.

Thanks again UCrewX5 and Ferri

MissionX5 11-08-2005 04:27 PM

I had mine updated at the dealer on 11/4 from V24 to V26. I printed a copy of the SIB (thanks to this website) and they updated it with no problem.
Service advisor tried to charge 30 dollars, but I talked them into doing it as a courtesy.
I love the change in graphics and display overall. However I don't care for the fact that you arterial streets disappear at 1/2 mile zoom. Hopefully they will correct that in the next version. Great improvement. Thanks.

blovedc 11-09-2005 10:42 AM

I tried to update last night and it would not work, my car kept rejecting the cd. I confused because my cd burner at home allowes me to burn at x2 which is as slow as possible. However, I tried it again this morning with a different CD burner and even though the cd burner would only let me burn it at x48, it worked perfectly. The update is great and was MUCH needed! Thanks everyone!

From my research on this site and from my experience if your nav system is having trouble recognizing the software cd then it is either a problem with your CD-R or your burner.

JaySpec7 11-18-2005 10:49 AM

Did the upgrade last night and everything went well... Thanks for the update and thanks for the instructions for us Mac guys!!!

If your navigation can take the update, do it.
It makes a WORLD of a difference. Everything looks much clearer!

You have a Mk2 nav drive, so you must have an early production 2000 X5. Any OS disk from V21 and on will take that particular nav drive to the lastest version, which is 2-1/81. You probably won't notice much of a difference, though.

See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=59 for more details.
