The wiring diagram is included in the retrofit instructions.
Do you have a copy of the instructions?

Thanks

So would the radio and antenna amp from my vehicle match? or would I need to get a new antenna amp? or is there anything else I can do?

Yes I have the retrofit instructions and from what i understand (which may not be right) show the pins 1 to 8 on the large black plug are for the speakers, so would this be the connections for 4 speakers?? 2 front and 2 rear???

But from what was said before I was under the imression there were more speakers ( 8? ) so how would these of been connected ??

I also went out earlier today and used the Nav for the first time, but couldnt get the audio directions to work, the map worked perfectly, and the radio automatically turned down at certain points, but with no audio instructions, I checked the Nav volume, which was ok...

thanks

Jon

If you fitted a BM54, with a flat-pin connector, then the radio and antenna amp will match.
You need to check the coax cable from radio to antenna amp for integrity, and make sure the antenna amp has power.

The radio connects (via 4 x speaker lines, being front left & right, and rear left and right) to the amplifier. The pins are 1...8, I just checked.
The amplifier connects to the speakers.
Normally, all cars with nav have the amplifier also fitted.
Does you car have the amplifier?
It's in the boot behind the CD changer.
As the amplifier wiring does not change, the amplifier should still be properly connected to all speakers.

Even if the car did not have the amplifier, the wiring should still be correct, because without the amplifier, the 4 x speaker wires go direct to the speakers. Without the amp, the car generally has only 6 x speakers fitted, with the front tweeters connected to the front woofers via a crossover capacitor.

It would probably pay to physically verify how many speakers you have - I've seen cars with 6 speakers but with 10 x speaker grills...

Edit: just looked at the first post which stated you bought the alpine amplifier.
In that case, if you did not have the amplifier in the past, you likely have connected only the woofer outputs to the speakers.

If your car did NOT have an amplifier in the past, then the speaker wiring is totally different.
To correct the speaker wiring, you will need to run new speaker wires from each speaker to the amplifier.
Remember: the amplifier is designed to drive the 10x speaker system (Hi-Fi). If you only have the 6x speakers then you need to change all the speakers and fit the 10x speaker package and all wiring.
When 10 speakers are fitted, they are different speakers to the 6xspeaker packager.
6 speakers = front woofer + tweeter +and rear full-range
10 speaker s= front tweeter, mid and woofer, plus rear tweeter and woofer.
Totally different speakers.
Totally different wiring loom.

Then the audio is not connected to the radio module.
The BM54 has separate nav audio inputs - as clearly shown in the wiring diagram of the retrofit instructions. Verify you have cabled and connected the nav audio to the proper connector on the radio module.

Pins 5 & 11 on X13598, which is the smaller plug fitted to the main radio connector. It's the connector with nav, tape, telephone and aux-in on it.
The other small connector goes to the CD changer.

What wiring loom did you use?
Was it a proper retro-fit loom?
It sounds like it was NOT a retro-fit loom, based on the troubles you are having...

The next step is for you to post some photos!

Thanks for the reply

Photos now finally posted

http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...rt-newbie.html

It wasnt a proper retrofit loom I used, as in previous posts it was one i got of Ebay (the one i got the Amp with)

I havent had chance yet, but i will check the coax cable from BM54 to Aerial Amp

I will also try to sort the Nav audio as you advised, and I am going to rewire all the speakers, as you suggested, to make sure all the wiring is correct

Thanks for your help again
Jon
