Just ordered a MKIV dvd Drive.
So i f*cked up bad, and dissconnected the battery with out the dvd drive spinning all the way down to a stop, and i killed the drive, so i ordered a new drive. paid just over $700, bmw quoted me just under $4000 for a new one installed. Anyway, should i be looking out for anything while installing it? is there a DIY for this? The one i ordered is off ebay running V32 with speed light warnings. Has anyone done this before?
Thanks in advance. |
just connect blue and purple connector and you are done...however, you may resuscitate old navigation unit with sw cd and inpa/dis if unit can be seen on diag sw
|
I've tried to bring the current unit back to life with an firmware cd with no luck. how does one go about taking out the old unit? is there a way to just wake it slide out? i read somewhere thats what those 4 holes on each corner are there for.

Cut a wire coat hanger into four pieces and shove each piece in one of the holes on the corners of the nav computer. That will release the lock clips and it will slide out. (Some times it takes some effort to wiggle it out.)

does anyone have a part number for the internal drive?

The P/N and procedure has been posted before. Try a search. I think it's in the range of $100-125.

That said, damaging a MKIV from a battery disconnect are very rare. Most likely, something else failed. |
I got it inspected at the local dealer, and they confirmed that it was the dvd drive its self.
they put in a test one, and it worked like magic. so im pretty sure the new dvd drive is going to fix my problem. |
Are you talking about the whole nav computer or just the DVD reader? TQ2K, Roy's and my recent posts were just about the DVD reader sub-part of the nav computer. Dealers do not typically stock those, and replacing one requires disassembly of the nav computer.
My hunch is that the dealer swapped the entire nav computer, which I agree is your likely problem. |
