Experience with Insurance Companies..

Hi guys, I wanted to ask you about your experience with Insurance Companies... I am with GEICO as long as I can remember, probably over 10 years but my neighbor downstairs recently mentioned that he switched to State Farm and pays mid 300 for full coverage for both of his cars (leased Chrysler 200 and used Volvo xc90) I am in pretty much similar situation (leased infiniti and used X5) but X has liability only and still pay more than he does. i call GEICO and all they said that I can/should take defensive driving course and they will give me a few % off and thats it, for full coverage for both vehicles they had quoted $505/mo. Next thing I did, I went online and got quoyes from State Farm and Progressive.. While S/farm was similar to geico, Progressive offered me a policy for mid 300. My question is - if anyone dealt with Progressive, how are they, if there was a claim, how did they handle it? Please let me know asap as I have to make desicion soon.. Thank you.

Don't have GEICO or Progressive. From what I've heard both of them are companies
to stay away from. I've had State Farm for years.

But heres the deal Insurance prices are tied into several factors. Age, location, type of vehicle,
deductible etc. With so many factors and choices available your needs should be the first consideration.
Question to ask: if you have an accident what will your ride look like when their done. What about collision?
How will you be covered? Insurance is a must have but when you really need it will they come thru?

I'm currently with Ameriprise. Started with them through Costco membership probably 15 years ago. Prices seem reasonable, but I do intend to shop around this next month.

I have had two recent auto incidents with them this past year and there service response have been kind of lame. Their issue is just a long approval process to have repairs made, both cases were a week each rather than 2~3 days.

I have a separate motorcycle policy with Progressive and was intending to shop them and a few others. I would imagine they are all close to a commodity and just boils down to price.

My experience with State Farm has been fantastic. I'm not a customer, but someone with State Farm hit my pickup one time. They treated me better than my own insurance company (Allstate) did. And I wasn't even a customer!

One day I plan to switch to State Farm. But my Allstate rates are lower for now.

My impression of Progressive is terrible. A few years ago the BMW dealer refused to allow owners to use a BMW loaner if they had Progressive- dealer was done dealing with them.

Ive had Geico and State Farm. Actually very happy with SF. My geico experience was over 15 + years ago

Roman D,
Just a thought: rather than shopping for car insurance A'la carte, it may be worth checking with your homeowner insurance to see if they offer car insurance that can be bundled into that policy.

Some do, some don't, but we have had our house, umbrella and 3 cars/3 motorcycles with the same agent and company underwriter for 14+ yrs and the line item costs for each 'thing' are much less, in that bundle.

I am a Geezer and we don't live in metro NY anymore, so it isn't a real world comparo, but maybe worth an inquiry.
GL, mD
