Any Telco Cabling Doods in here - cabling question

If memory serves me correctly.......I recall some blurbs of you guys working for the local Bells.

I'm just thinking outloud but my T1 circuit has been going out somewhat frequently.
Everytime these guys come out to repair, they always hand it over to Cable Maintenance since there are no free pairs in the Feeder Box for them to swap cables.

With that said, the guys do the magic underground, etc and all is well for awhile/

Regardless of what test shows, and if the patch connection on the feeder box is fresh.....is there a chance I may be on a bad cable pair that is going to the feeder box even though when the circuit is up, test shows it's clean.


Just venting......circuit is down again and once again, I'm at the mercy of cable maintenance and for them to do their magic.....

From the feeder box where are you connecting to? Do you have a 66 block that the T1 pair is punched down onsite? Could be a bad block, bad connection to block or a bad pair.

if your service is buried, is it old school cabling wrapped with wax paper? (telco'd know). Those tend to flake over the years and cause pairs to touch. You may have to raise a ruckus to get a new 25 pair run.

Who is the LEC? I've had plenty of issues with Bell South in the past. Every three days they needed to switch pairs. They had plenty of issues and they had to step-up their fiber rollout.

In your case, they could have a mositure problem as well as the feeder going bad.

Lots of variables can influence this. Age and condition of the cable, distance from the CO or fiber hut, bridge tab, load coils, and the list goes on. Most T1 copper spans these days use HDSL or HDSL2 technology, which is pretty rubust and is pretty good about self-recovery as long as the cable pairs are halfway decent.

As asked above, who is your service provider? If you are in the at&t (aka SBC) territory, PM me your T1 circuit ID and I'll see what I can find out.

Thanks Guys for the feedback. The feeder box is right outside our building and not a single damm spare pair.....it's a pretty big box too.

Cable Maintence crew got it up and running around noon - after being out all day yesterday. It's something that's been on the backburner as a extra expense, but the SDSL Backup line was ordered today. Hopefully, they will come into a provisioning issue and Verizon will pull a new trunk of cable into the feeder box. Win-Win situation as I get SDSL and now there will be free pairs in the feeder box ;-)

From the feeder box it goes straight to demarc--then to smartjack. But that is not the issue. It's the pair coming off the feeder that seems to be always the issue as the 1st Verizon guy that arrives always has to pass the buck onto the Cable & Maintainance Crew.

I just gotta do some homework and see if I was to order a T1 circuit from Verizon....will their SLA cover the entire LOCAL LOOP all the way back to the DEMARC with the usual 4 hr window. All other *non bell * providers can't put that in their SLA (which is understandable) but if it's a Verizon circuit....me wonders if they do ????
