For Those of you w/6Spd manuals...

(Or, even auto trannies)...You lucky drivers, you! This is what the old 5 speed manual trans does to your motor's rpms at, ahem...highway speeds.

Somewhere on I-81 in VA. Sorry for the non-sharp pic, but the flash gave it an "edge"; a lil'jiggly, too.
I gotta work on my pic taking while boogieing down the highway. (What were the Teutons thinking with a 1:1 5th gear ratio?!)

Around those speeds, my 330 is somewhere around 3700rpm. A 6-sp would be very nice.
BTW, MD, those are very daring speeds for a state where radar detectors are illegal!

X5 3.0i with steptronic automatic can replicate it by shifting down to 4th gear which is 1:1.

MD, I think BMW just used the current 5-speed tranny that they use in the 3/5-series car. I know the E36 M3 has a 5-speed with the 5th gear 1:1 ratio. Glad the E46 M3 has a 6-speed with an actual overdrive for the 6th gear.

In the US, the police departments set the speed limits low so they can generate revenue from speeding tickets... It's ridiculous...

Awesome... But aren't they able to detect the radar detector with some special band or something?

"Some" cops supposedly have a detection device, but the newer Bird dogs are basically "cloaked" from what I've read.

I sometimes take it off the dash and jes'lay it in my lap if the Revenue Enhancement detail is too close and swarming around. If I did get nailed, I'd just discretely take it down, shut it off, and tuck it.

Allegedly, the VA State Troopers do. Growing up around here, I never got into the radar detector thing, even when I lived in another state. It does seem ridiculous that they're illegal here and legal in MD, right across the river. Someone said it earlier, it's just a 'toll' some people end up paying the govt. to drive.

JV

BTW, md, how's I-81 this time of year for rock slides?
