World's First Twin Variable-Geometry-Turbo Engine

I never realized how amazing this new diesel in the 5 series is: highest output power/displacement, world's lightest 6cyl diesel, etc:

I assume the 07 X5 will get this....

"The saloon sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), using only 8.0 litres of diesel fuel over a distance of 100 km in the EU combined cycle (all figures apply to the automatic transmission supplied as standard).
Full Engine Specifications"

So let's say for 20 gallon Tank:

1 US gallon = 3.7854118 litres.

3.7854118 x 20 = 75.708236 litres

75.708236 / 8 = 9.4635295

9.4635295 x 100 = 946 miles per tank!

With city driving let's discount that to 850 miles. I like.

Its VG twin turbo engine and only one intercooler! It was developed on the X5 Rally car(the one almost flipping in the video).
We had a 535D Touring here a few weeks back and we did some research! It will fit perfectly on my 2003 X5 3.0D,even the engine mountings!I can easily sell my engine ,now I am looking for a rear accident damaged 535D to get the engine ,ECU and wiring harness??

I think it's horsecrap especially the part about higher HP per liter blah blah...
With turbo's you're pretty much throwing the displacement argument out the door as you talking about an "un-natural" way of processing large volume of air in a combustion chamber... There are plenty of diesel motors in europe with turbo's that will whoop this motor's ass especially in commercial trucks. In regards to sequential turbo's, don't see what so special about that.. the concepts been around for years..

The hp/liter is in relation to other fi diesels....

Yea, plenty of commecial diesels will kick this engines ass....no replacement for displacement? They are large engines with large turbos.

Yea, sequential turbos have been around for a while, but they have all been wastegated. The idea behind VGT is that it reduces lag and is more responsive and flexible. Using two of these pushes the concept even further.

The purpose of the thread is to display what BMW is pioneering in diesel technology. For example: as revolutionary as this, or perhaps even more, just a few years ago BMW was the first to use Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) for the block and head in the 740d; the first in any production vehicle.

When making comparisions, you must do it on an equal" back to back " basis!
You cant compare commercial trucks with light passenger cars!
If its all "horsecrap" as you put it,then back it up yourself with some facts!
Name a Twin turbo, twin VG up to 3000 c.c light passenger car that will outbeat this??????
Perhaps if you drove one ,you will feel differently!

BTW ,why all the aggression? Why all the anti-BMW crap? Why do you spoil a nice informative thread by VIn?
