v1 = v1 site

S1 = jaric design or through the vendors.

range is significant better than the passports. On drives down I5, we had alerts from a little over a mile away that that v1 can detect (Ka) The arrows are nice.. knowing where the last radar/lidar came from. Another advantage is V1 supports POP now. Of course if you are the only car on the road, you're screwed.

Who "really" knows about these - what do they do that others don't?

one month ago a x5 owner has been busted using a radar detector, police wanted to pound the x5 for the state, lukely in court he won. But when police bust him again within 3years he has to pay couple of thousands of euros and looses his car.

my question now..are there detectors that can't be detected by police?

The V1 has metal casing that shields the RF emission - most detectors are "superhethorodine" receivers, in other words, they detect certain harmonics within the specific range (X, K, KA), convert the received signal into a fixed internal frequency and then amplify it and presents to the user. The VSS unit that cops in DC and VA are using to detect the detectors are tuned to the internal frequency that the detectors use and emit. V1 does not leak RF (funny, it picks up bogeys from rear, gaining and then passing, and all you see is a pickup or a Camry or something else with a non-V1 detector on the windshield that passes you). V1 mounted at the top right portion of the windshield and a remote display tucked in the lower left of the windshield is an alternative to S1. In this set up, you would need to have a remote volume/power switch installed somewhere handy to control the power. Someone told me years ago - once you drive a BMW, you will not want to drive anything else. This is my 4th bimmer... I can say this - once you use V1 (with or without the S1), you will not want to use anything else. I own 2 V1s in my two daily drivers, both hard wired. The V1's receiving circuitry is far better in design that some of the other ones. However, regardless of the technology, this is just a tool - the man behind the machine should decide what is a threat and what is not. Other thing that I might suggest is CarChip from Davis Labs - it plugs into the OBD II port and keeps track of your speed as reported by the car - you might be able to prove to the judge that you were going at X MPH when you were pulled over. Or judge will ignore you anyway..
