Try flashing your high beams at a stoplight sometime. You will sometimes get the same effect, depending on the angle of your headlights.

I think this is actually a myth because these "traffic light priority" devices do not emit a visible light. I believe that they work on IR. I know/knew someone who had one from 3M, not some Interet store. He mounted it on a camera flash mount so it was portable from car to car. It worked like a champ but I always felt that he shouldn't be using it.

It sure doesn't work in every intersection, but I swear it works in some, especially when travelling uphill towards a stoplight. I can be 50 yards away, no other cars in sight at a particular intersection near work and it'll change when I flash the high beam lights. I need to test that theory out to be certain.

That's disgusting that your friend would do such a thing. Where do you suppose he would have purchased such a thing or what would the device be called if someone were searching for it? Again, truly despicable

It does work on some stoplights, but it isn't the same sensor. Some stoplights have a beam or a regular light sensor that can detect the presence of a vehicle at the intersection. Usually this is turned on after the 11:00 pm hour on minor streets that intersect with major streets, so as not to keep the regular light cycle timers running and traffic can flow more smoothly on the major street.

He claimed that he ordered and installed a bunch of them on some of a local police department's vehicles and he happened to order one extra for himself. I saw he "claimed" because I have since found out that he is a lying sack of crap. He's actually due to be released from prison soon. I'm not kidding. That's why I said I "knew" a guy. I don't want to know him anymore. In any event, he had this gadget and every light we were stopped at, he'd flip the switch and BAM, the light went green for us.
