Seeking tips to avoid/beat Speeding Tickets
 Last night, 2AM to be exact ,North bound 5 freeway 20 miles from LA, I got a speeding ticket doing 79 mph on 65 mph limit. The freeway way was virtually empty I thought I was doing 70ish on the 2nd lane. From downhill I noticed the CHiPs flashing at me. I slowed down, still the officer got me off to the next exit. Please let me know what I should have done and should do. 1. Former officer friend of mine advised me never to play a smart a$$ in this situation, immediately apolozise and ask for his/her mercy. That's exactly what I did. I told him that I thought I was doing close to 70 mph. (Well admission of guilt I know it doesn't stand well on court.) 2. Officer asked if I spotted him on the top of the hill which I denied. He also advised that IN A NEW CAR(05 X5) ESPECIALLY IN DOWNHILL IT IS LIKELY NOT NOTICE YOU ARE SPEEDING. Does cops profile Bimmers during their speed trap operation? My other ticket was from my other BMW, the cop metioned some about the car while I wasn't the only one who was speeding. I will be going to the court to take a chance of him not showing, last time it didn't work because the sheriff station was right next to the court house. Any advise? Perhaps any gadges to deter this event? I am a thirty something man, I don't exactly have cleavage to entice the officer to give up his right to issue tickets.

Seriously, use cruise control. Never have to worry about a speeding ticket. And sometimes you get better gas mileage. For me it's 70 in the 65 zones and 60 in 55 zones (believe it or not, the 101 between downtown and Universal City is a 55 zone).
Good luck with your ticket.

Based on your situation, he'll give you an sample letter of what he thinks would work best in your situation. He says to always fight your tickets by written declaration because if the officer does not respond by a certain time, the ticket is dismissed and your bail returned. First thing I would do is to get an extension. The longer the time from the time you got cited, the less likely the officer will remember the circumstances surrounding your stop; he gives out hundreds of tickets each month, so unless you were an ass, he probably won't remember it as well as you do. Once you do submit your written declaration, if the judge rules against you, you can get a second trial, or take traffic school and maybe even get your fine reduced, as long as you ask for it in writing. TA also gives a lot of good info on what to say when you get stopped, like, "how long have you had this speed trap set up? (30 minutes) Did you know that speed traps are illegal in the state of california, per California Vehicle Code ******?" We're all going to speed at some point, the website just helps you if and when you get pulled over again. I got pulled over 8 years ago and said that I won't speed again, and I was pretty good about it until December.

Hey gang, this worked for me...on advice of my attorney....when you get a speeding ticket, particularly in the San Fernando Valley, request at the time the cop is writing the ticket that he put in writing on the ticket "Move to County Seat." In my case, the "County Seat" is Downtown LA...few Valley or Simi cops are going to travel to Downtown for an appearance...(well, it least it's alot more likely he won't show)...at your initial hearing, remind the commish that you have requested transfer of the hearing to your County Seat...he/she is required by law to do so if requested...Well, long story short, ticket dismissed at the county seat courthouse 'cause Mr. Valley cop didn't show...My Atty says this will happen 75% of the time...pretty good odds to take a chance at beating a moving violation and a nice fine that goes with it....
