Another laptop question

Wondering what are the rules about swapping AC power adapters for laptops. Do they have to be exact or just close? I was wondering if I could use my Sony laptop AC adapters to power my Gateway laptop without causing damage?

Gateway
INPUT: 100-240V~ 1.6A 50-60Hz
OUTPUT: 19V --- 3.42A

Sony
INPUT: 100-240V~ 1.1A-0.6A 50-60Hz
OUTPUT: 19.5V --- 2.15

Nope- if the voltage was the same on the output you could do it, but that .5V would be enough to make me nervous.

The amperage difference would likely cause you a problem as well- apparently the GW uses more current that the Sony.

volts up

I agree with "Mackskibum". Electrical components were created for that amount of volts/amps. How about googling UR question!
