US: 3
Finland: 4

Canada: 0
Russia: 2

Holy crap!!! What the hell happened to the US and Canada? I know the short answer is simple: Finland kicked butt. I'm a little less surprised that the US got eliminated because they were probably good for a silver at best and was predicted by some to be no better than 6th. Canada is a different story. Being the defending gold medal winners helped their rating but they had an incredible team assembled. Even more shocking was Canada's inability to score a goal in the last three games with guys likes Sakic, Iginla, Thornton, and Heatley. Zero goals!

Unbelieveable.

Yup! the US being eliminated is no big surprise. It was NOT a strong team... matter of fact, probably one of the weakest teams we've sent in a while. But CANADA losing? Now, THAT'S a shocker. You're right, Kevin, they had the "dream team," and failing to score one single goal?? WTF?

We'll see.... that Finnish team is looking strong, though.

canada had "ny rangers" syndrome, too many superstars who wouldn't work hard and expected to be fed the puck.... getting shutout over the last 3 games was surprising too.

russia looks strong, ovechkin is having the olympics of his dreams, but lundqvist is still lundqvist, and jagr won't go quietly into the night... it's going to be a great final 4

Well, they did play well against the Czechs in the last game (Canada won 3-2) when they got the energy level up, but it was a disappointing tournament overall. Gretzky did handle it well in the interviews tonight, no excuses.

Ah well, we can celebrate the women's gold.

You know what the problem is.........

Bullshit dream teams and NHL/professionals in the Olympics. Bring back the days of college kids who dreamed about this kinda stuff or national teams who didn't have players in the pros.

I enjoyed watching the games, but I still felt as if I were watching glorified All-Star games.

Kevin, what a huge disappointment!!

They let the entire nation down but know what they weren't good enough to win. They lost to a better team (the Russians).....there're no two ways about it. Like Gresch said having an all-star team doesn't neccessarily guarantee success. They just didn't play together as a team. Three shutouts!! No excuses!!

I agree that it was a case of too much talent under too much pressure. I think it was Gretzky who said that it was possibly that each one of the "stars" tried too hard to change the game as an individual rather than playing a team game. He also talked about the pressure that the players feel playing for Canada but didn't make any excuses for the poor showing.

How about Mike Modano's rant about USA Hockey? He blamed them for poor support and not even making the travel arrangements for the US players.
