Just put yourself in that police officer's shoes walking up to a car you've just pulled over and not be able to see into the vehicle. Letting a perp get a 'free shot' isn't my idea of safe. Let's cut them some slack. It a tough, (mostly) thankless job. When things go to s**t, they have to make split second decisions that the court (and media) get to second guess them at leisure.
