NYC peeps beware - Tint Tickets on the rise

I got one on Sunday. Crossing an intersection, cop was *hung back* on the corner. As I turned the corner, lights came on, etc and I was pulled over. He did put the light meter device on the window and I got ticketed for too dark windows. I do have 30% all around. I think state law is 75% and mine metered at 19%

Almost 3 yrs now on the X and it's the 1st tint infraction.

I'm driving downtown on the way back from a meeting today. Stop at a stoplight on 7th Ave and 33rd Street. Cop is hiding out on the corner - Steps out and tells me to pull over and park once again. ANOTHER ticket in less than 2 weeks.

For all you NYC'ers out there with tint's, be tint aware. Seems like a revenue crackdown has begun !

Those 2 times I thought I was getting pulled over for not having a front license plagte

Are they bagging you for the driver and passenger seats? I thought the SUV factory tint around the back was legal?

sorry yo hear about ur recent tickets.
i must say, that front license plate law
sucks. we have the same thing in MD.
the X5 looks so much nicer w/o a front
tag; as does any car for that matter.

In MD tint laws for suv's are: as low as 5% for all rear window/rear passenger windows but no less the 35% on driver front and passenger front. Luckily with the big glass moon roof when ever I see a cop looking like he is trying to "find something to do" I open up the roof. It lets in enough light to make the tint look legal

I did not get any tickets for the front license plate both times.

It is my understanding that rears are whatever you like .

Both times, they tried to make the situation better by saying * I could ticket you for all 4 windows, but I'm only going to ticket you for the drivers front*.
By law, I think it's fronts ONLY but I'm not sure whether is per window or not. I'm going to dig that up just for reference....

Too Funny. Great minds think alike.

I Do the same moonroof trick too when I drive between NYC/NJ and and stopped at lights trying to get in/out of the tunnel. The NJ side is notorious for jumping out of corners when you're stopped at a red light.

The lightmeter is not like a heat temp gun . The window slips in-between the device as it does it's readings.

I knew it was *illegal* when I tinted the X so I'm not going to worry over the tickets. One would think that *police resources* could just be used a bit more wisely........(I'm treading lightly away).

I drive in an around NYC all the time.

The cops need/what to see into your car when entering bridges therefore I did not get any tinting.

To my way of thinking we all need to understand we are at WAR and we need to understand.
