That's OK, the last three years I have flow YVR-LHR so often that I know the AC schedule by heart, including flight numbers and equipment, and the difference between summer (3 daily flights) and winter (1 daily). The concierge in LHR recently asked me my FF number for an upgrade to executive first (they recognized me), I recited it from memory, and she paused, then said, "that is very sad".

Winds do die down; they jumped the gun and canceled the flight way in advance. I get moved to an earlier flight. I get to the airport and the flight is delayed. Next, I get to Dallas and board the plane. The had to wait for the engines to get deiced, and THREE hours later they finally got deiced and then we taxied over to get he wings deiced. In that three hours sitting at the gate with the doors shut, for the first 120 minutes they didn’t even have the ventilation on. Return trip wasn’t much better. Both hops were delayed.

While I was in CA, I saw an article that showed the Jet Blue and Continental flew 90% of their flights into NY while American and another carrier cancelled most of theirs. American is one of the top two that will cancel flights at the drop of a hat. If you need to get somewhere and the weather might be bad, don’t fly American.

That's hilarious! Sounds like the pre-episode of Lost, though! As the plane descends, the price increases...LOL. Flying really is a weak experience other than Business & 1st class. At 6'3" I always screen seating charts at http://www.seatguru.com before flying. They cover all major airlines & body styles, meal reviews etc. (yeah, remember those inflight meals from back in the day!). Anyways, it's helpful. If flying coach, I'd definitely pay the $15, tho.
Peanuts and 1/2 a soda... Free.
Rubbery food & better drinks... More than the airlines are willing to pay.
Freedom from every nerve in your legs falling asleep for X hours straight.... PRICELESS.

I guess being "vertically challenged" has its benefits.

6'4" here (and broad, to put is politely) My problem is headroom (42" butt to head) Was on an Airbus from Vancouver to Montreal with a window seat. The airframe curved in so quickly, I could not sit up straight and had to lean over the poor old lady beside me. I ended up in the rear galley gabbing with the stewardesses the entire flight except for landing.

Now it's 1st class or 2 coach seats

I believe pilots only get paid when they leave the gate, maybe AA figures the more pilots they can keep at the gate with a cancelled flight, particularly in cities where they dominate the route, the less their hourly burn rate is...also, a re-route costs huge money because they have to pay for ground transpo. So why roll the dice on the weather when your passengers don't have another option? AA will will get the seat-mile revenue on their time. With fuel costs so high, the plane they keep at the gate is the plane thats not accruing airframe hours, etc...It's their way of "stickin' it to the man".

According to the airline; they are only trying to generate interests from people who would like the extra room. They are not actually charging people at this time.

What crap... I liked buying my ticket, simply walking up to check-in and asking if exit rows were available. And forget small planes... my hips and legs get crunched.

Totally good point though. If I'm gonna pay to sit in an exit row, then I guess in case of an emergency, you're gonna have to pay me to help other out the plane... or, I'll be the first one out and F that shit of letting others go first. I paid for the seat.
