I guess being "vertically challenged" has its benefits.

6'4" here (and broad, to put is politely) My problem is headroom (42" butt to head) Was on an Airbus from Vancouver to Montreal with a window seat. The airframe curved in so quickly, I could not sit up straight and had to lean over the poor old lady beside me. I ended up in the rear galley gabbing with the stewardesses the entire flight except for landing.
Now it's 1st class or 2 coach seats

I believe pilots only get paid when they leave the gate, maybe AA figures the more pilots they can keep at the gate with a cancelled flight, particularly in cities where they dominate the route, the less their hourly burn rate is...also, a re-route costs huge money because they have to pay for ground transpo. So why roll the dice on the weather when your passengers don't have another option? AA will will get the seat-mile revenue on their time. With fuel costs so high, the plane they keep at the gate is the plane thats not accruing airframe hours, etc...It's their way of "stickin' it to the man".

According to the airline; they are only trying to generate interests from people who would like the extra room. They are not actually charging people at this time.

What crap... I liked buying my ticket, simply walking up to check-in and asking if exit rows were available. And forget small planes... my hips and legs get crunched.
Totally good point though. If I'm gonna pay to sit in an exit row, then I guess in case of an emergency, you're gonna have to pay me to help other out the plane... or, I'll be the first one out and F that shit of letting others go first. I paid for the seat.
