Everybody shed a tear...

the Pentagon is crying about gas prices now...

Hmm, maybe its not a good idea for an A1M1 to consume 10 gallons of fuel an hour idling....

Throughout the past few years' rising prices for gas, diesel, jet fuel, etc.,
I am surprised that some kind of legislation wasn't pumped through, eg,
a broad reduction in Fed taxes collected on diesel, and jet juice,
especially...

I'm not naive and I realize the "geniuses" in Congress/Senate seldom do
anything for any good reason other than "face", but a reduction in the
"cost" of these two vital energy prods. would have helped to keep the
lid on goods transported by truck, (like 80% of the stuff we use), and
helped the idiot airline industry where fuel is the # 1, 2 and 3 cost,
followed by pension, health, etc.

I understand the Fed, (state, county & locals, too), will spend 110-150%
of whatever we send them, and the fookin fiasco in Iraq costs billions per month,
but a little reduction of taxes on diesel and JetA woulda helped an entire set of situations,
not just some truck companies and airline co.s

When local school boards, for exp., have budgets that contain 200% increases for
gas/diesel, (even paying much less tax than consumers), something is amiss.

This energy addiction and the resulting layers and layers of cost and the CO2 load, will be our kids undoing I fear.

I just want to know this, why over the last week have prices risen $0.20+ cents??? Did I miss something where another hurricane blew threw and destroyed everything? Somone piss off OPEC again? I know I know, Europe is paying $5+ for regular. But to see such a drastic increase again over a short period of time totally freaked me out.

I agree, G...
Besides the "refinery funnel" that has come to be conventional wisdom,
I suspect that like the Spring ephemerals, and the Summer Driving Season,
it's time to jack the pump prices up, again.

I'm sure it's not that simplistic, but...

G easy answer, 10Billion wasn't enough profit for one quarter, companies are now seeing who can make more money. It is just a push by the gas comodity industry to force a common place 2.55 cost on unleaded 87 in this country. Eventually, with enough fluctuation, the price will probably avg around 2.55 a gallon and 3 years from now everybody will say "remember the days when gas was 2.55 a gallon." with estonishment, not knowing how it got there.
