Hauling small trees...

After chasing the ball today for medical, remedial and recuperative reasons, I made a run to Lowes and picked up 3 Japanese maples. They and golf bag, etc., all fit fine in back of X.
A lil'creative stuffing, but no sweat. No weight or mass record, but stuff Does fit.

I love acer palmatums: we have 9 diff. varieties, plus these 3. I'll have 20+ varieties before I can't do it anymore, as in really old. These 3 are v.good varietals of the species, and Lowes was giving 'em away. I still support my foo-foo local nurserys but these prices were hard to pass up for the size of the plant. Can't plant them until freeze poss. is over; this way I can drag 'em in the garage at night, when cold, until mid May. BR,md

Plate: CJ, we have several varieties of "regional plate" for sale in NC.
All versions are an extra 50 bucks/yr, (from memory), in add. to the regular annual plate fee. Our regional plate says: "Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains", though the color scheme and design is less than artful, imo. The "5KHI" is obvious to some, but to most locals, many of whom also sport a Smoky Mtn regional plate, that combo is a mystery or they think that's jes'what I received in the letter line they passed out. We got that regional plate on all 3 cars just to sorta distance ourselves from our fellow big city NC'ers in Raleigh, Charlotte, etc., lol!

Cool trees! I love the red-leaved ones especially. I bought a red tree 5 years ago just like yours, but smaller Strangely, it has grown only green leaves from last year onwards.

Rooster, no Xpert, but imo, your red acer palmatum probably receives too much shade and too much fertilizer, (from grass runoff poss.?) If fert. isn't an issue, too much shade causes many red maples to "fall back on" their basic green pigmentation to keep the chorl/sun/O2 cycle cooking.

Some rare instances of red or variegated maples "reverting" to "orig" color/varietal, IF they are a graft; rare and usually seen in just one branch, better known as a "sport".

Without the varietal/cultivar latin name specifics, tough to do more than offer this guess. GL,md

Wow you would make a good horticulturist! The tree indeed does receive less Sun than others since it's it's partially in the shade of another, bigger tree. And I poured sheep manure on the soil for years!

Oh well, I still like the shape of the leaves at least, so no reason to part with this good tree. :p

I love these trees too. Bad news for you though, you gotta give em up when you move down here.

Yeah, I know they don't survive in Zone 10B...It will only be a
4 1/2 to 5 month respite per year...the maples will be asleep up here, while I'm working on my skin cancer and golf game down there, lol!
