why did I have to go to the dealer?!

Well, here's the story. I went to the stealer yesterday because I saw a 645 the other day on my way home from work and I wanted to check one out.
I like the 6 series, unfortunately, the girlfriend didn't like the fact that once you adjust the front seats, the backseat becomes useless for the most part. I don't see the problem here, as long as my butt is in the drivers seat, all is good.
I saw a 'vert M3, she didn't like it?! At this point I'm thinking I need to re-think my female counterpart .
Anyway, she decided that she wanted to take a 5 series for a drive. 8-cylinder to be exact. Well, no 550's around to drive, but had an '05 545 with everything but heads up display. Yes, it had active steering.
Anyway, what an impression this car has left! Now, if I could do it, I'd probably flip cars every other month. So, here I am contemplating trading the X for a 545. It only has 12k on the clock, I have 10k on mine. It gets better gas mileage, has a bigger trunk than the X and I'd be getting some money back after all is said and done.
What should I do? If I get the 5 series will I be banned from here? Will I have the same fate at CJ (as ANYBODY heard from him )?

I test drove a 545 along side the X5 4.4 and bought the X5. Funny how you're thinking about going the other way. There was a recent thread about the 5er. Check it out.

The deciding factor for me was the lack of AWD, the seating position and the Bangle factor.

The 545 is an excellent car. Overall i think it is better built and has less problems than the X5. If you dont need AWD go for it. If i didnt need an AWD SUV for everyday and work i would be driving a 550 everyday. I refuse to drive my M cars daily. Even my M5. The 545 is alot faster than the X5 4.4. It weighs almost 1200 bls less with the same motor. Thats like having an extra 120hp. If you are really into performance drive a 550 first its a pretty big difference. Its got the 4.8 in it from the 4.8is. The 550 6 speed hauls ass. No joke. I ve driven one and its almost as fast as my E39 M5 was stock. If BMW ever makes a 550XI wagon i might get one instead of another X5. Dont get me wrong i love my X5 its the best suv ive ever had. It performs better than 95% of the sedans on the market today. And most of that other 5% are BMW sedans.

I will be makeing some pretty big changes in my stable pretty soon. I am waiting for the new M3 to come out. Then i will be selling my current e39m5 and my e36 m3 and e46 m3 and will be purchasing a E60 M5. and a
E90 M3 coupe. And i have not decided yet. But probably a 650i convertable. Ive never had a convertable before and want to try one out. I wanted to trade my 04 X5 for an 06 but have decided to wait for the 07s to come out. If i like the 07s i will wait till 08 and buy one if not i will trade my 04 for an 06 right away. Unless like i said before if bmw comes out with a 550XI wagon. I told my sales about my plans now every time i see him he begins salavating and drooling. He is dying for this to take place.
I though about a 750 but dont think i can do that yet. Id rather have the 650.

My wife's Accord lease is up at the end of this year, and the 5 series is starting to grow on me. I was no fan of the new Bangled 5 when it came out 2 years ago, but I saw a new 550 the other night and I thought it was awesome. Is a 5 series just as fun to mod?

No i just cant do it. I get too nervous leaving them in the parking lots or anywhere else. my M cars have to be mint. Even if there is a tiny little dent or scrtch it gets fixed imeditaley. they are ver low mileage. When ever i sell my cars. the buyers are always amazed at there condition. They are lucky people to be buying my cars. I drive them hard. But they always look like they came off the show room floor that day. Plus i drive alot. I can easliy put 700 miles a week on a car. Aagin i would feel to guilty. Plus i do need awd for the winter. So my Mcars are garaged or in storage and i drive my regular bimmers everyday.

a huge majority of the E39 M5 guys who don't drive their cars are the ones with the major engine failures and carbon buildup issue... It's been well documented. It's just a car.. it's meant to be driven.. so you get a door ding.. bring it to a PDR place and you're golden and contrary to popular belief, your car will not melt if you drive it in the rain like half of the ferrari posers out there.. LOL
