Making an Avatar

Please help. I can make animated gifs no problem. But I can't upload them - the site wont let me.

Can someone please help me here - I basically want an animated image as my avatar - I understand it needs to be max 100*100 and less than 117KB.

Is there any software I need. Also, does it need to be hosted somewhere? What is the extension of an avatar file format? ie. what do I upload.

Use this site to reduce the size of your gif if needed. No, it doesn't need to be "hosted". You simply upload it from your hard drive. The format should be a ".gif" file.
