Got mine up to 145 on the Autobahn the other week before she went on the boat back to the US, she sure felt like she wanted to keep going for another few mph

I thought the 4.4 was limited to 130mph as a top speed?
http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/X5/44i/techdata.htm

Performance
Acceleration 0-60 mph 1 6.8 sec
Top speed 2 130 mph
Fuel economy, EPA est. mpg city/highway 3 16/22

2 - Top speed electronically limited.

Well I'm sure there was some fudge in the speedo but it said 145mph as I went round the Berlin ring road and the foot was not quite to the floor! I was impressed as my old Lotus Esprit 1989 2.2L Turbo peaked out at 152mph when I ran that out back in the early 90's (also got a 6 month suspension for that little stunt on the M2)

You gets to buy 98 octane in jolly old Deutschland. Might this make a difference? My window sticker says "Unlimited top speed", which is obviously subject to interpretation. Optimistic Bavarians...

It may make a small difference although 98 due to the calculation differences is actually closer to North American 92 Octane than 98 Octane NA.

Could have been X was tired of the 7 hours on Polish roads cruising at 50mph or below and she wanted a good run to get the lead out.

HoyaTerp -

I just got an AARP decal in the mail. They keep wanting me to join since I've reached the "qualifying" age. If you want, I can send it to you and you can slap it on your back bumper. Maybe it will keep those wannabees and troopers off your tail.

Regards, Mike

They'll be scratching their heads saying, "that's one bookin' grandpaw!"

I see those AARP things as love letters from the grim reaper. I just toss 'em out unopened as if to read it would cast me under a spell. Nope, I'm not there yet. I'm quite happy living on Main Street in the City of Denial.

Why am I having a vision of Statler and Waldorf from The Muppet Show?

I get all my mother's mail as she is in assisted living due to a stroke. I told the AARP to suppress all mailings. I have "some decades" to go before that's me, but it was creeping me out.

Go register for Selective Service. That'll screw with the direct mail folks.
