I was actually on the phone with a friend and we were talking about winning the lottery. We joked that if we did we could have all those toys but we agreed that it wouldn't be real. What we have now, what and who we love now, and what and who loves us now, is what's real.

And about those crapholes I mentioned, I have been in many, many such places and always under bad circumstances so I can appreciate the people and the fact that they are just like anyone else trying to make a life for themselves. Just about on a daily basis I go into those kinds of homes. In many ways, I respect those who transcend those circumstances more than those born into more fortunate circumstances.

I know I'm lucky and I know I should be happy with what I have, and I am. Life is good. Sometimes it takes seeing how the other half lives, rich or poor, to get back to center and remember where you are.

Well said.

My father, we call him Tony Tact, has this happy barometer theroy. If you stick the barometer up the guys behind who has the house on the hill, all the toys, bling and arm candy, it will never register as high as the poor man in a hut somewhere with his family all around him.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Remind me never to be in a funk around Tony.

I just got back from Maui. Talk about seeing people with money oozing out of their orifaces. They easily are able to plunk down more on a vacation than I spent on my X5.

Many times I thought to myself, damn, how lucky they must be!

On the red-eye flight coming home I looked across at my sleeping wife and daughters. I thought about the fun we had on our vacation. My one year old took her first steps. My 5 year old finally got over her fear of the big waves. I thought about how many times people complimented us on our daughters in restaurants, on the beach, while shopping and on airplanes. I thought about how my wife deserves most of the credit for that.

And I thought, damn, how lucky I must be! You are right Kevin, it is all relative - literally.

Well said. Funny Kevin and I had a conversation about $$ a week ago. Both my wife aka my sugar momma ( ) and I have very well paying jobs and we are very lucky to be living very comfortably. But along with all that extra money comes with a lot of other problems and a lot more BS... relatives asking for money.. AMT, long workdays and nights, tons of traveling and more BS to deal with at work especially when you are in the upper management level.. all that for what??? nothing really.. because you don't even have time to enjoy the luxuries that you have.. food for thought..

One thing I didn't to mention is that being an "old guy" I've seen folks make the journey from the basement to the penthouse and watched their lives fall completely apart. The journey never prepares you for the final destination. That comes from within.
