Thanks! Yep... photography is one of my hobbies. The shots that are up on my website are the 30 or so I've picked from the tens of thousands I have on my hard drives... I'm still learning on a daily basis and am very much an amateur. When you sit and stare at financial statements, KPI reports, metrics, business plans, etc. all day you have to have something creative to do

Yep... Jim Taylor does phenomenal work! It's hard to believe he was able to get such classic lines into an excellent cruiser when he works so much on racers. We actually looked at one of his other designs - the Colgate 26 - but decided we wanted something a bit more cruiser friendly. I have to reach out to him shortly to see if he has plans I can use to get a half model of our boat made. If you see him, tell him thanks for the good work, and can he sign my hull?

Congrats on the new toy!

Years ago I owned a C&C 34 that we cruised along the NE coast. Most of the time it was docked in Newport RI. Great times. Now I satisfy my sailing desires by chartering and invites from friends.

Keeping the boat - with all the maintenance and expenses - just wan't an option after we had kids.

Have you found any good websites/forums for sailers?

I'm off on trips to Vegas, Seattle, Denver and Pittsburgh between now and the second week of May. We did a nice cruise last summer along the coast of Maine on a Tartan 40 for a week or so. The IP485 was actually my desktop background until we got our own boat. We looked at a lot of boats at the Annapolis show this past year and the 485 was the leader, although if I can swing it we may look at an Oyster 53. We have a lot of specific needs - center cockpit so we can have a good master stateroom with privacy, 3 cabins + an office area, lots of storage, space for 2 runabouts (one for us, one for the kids)... I have three pages full of brainstorming we did on what kind of boat we need. The only issue I had with the IP485 is that the berth in the master stateroom isn't centerline - it's on an angle which makes it pretty useless underway. That will probably be a major deciding factor.

Yep... already figured that out. I think I've spent almost as much on outfitting the boat as I did for buying the boat. We just got our Avon 9' inflatable on Friday. That was a pretty penny, but we can use it for our next boat too. Instruments, radios, GPS/Chartplotter, motors, lines, safety, etc... lots to spend on.

I'll be on an IP485 most of the time, and on another friend's IP35 for the rest of the time. If you're worried about the berth being on the centerline, perhaps a gimbled berth is possible?

I can relate. I spend 12-16 hours a day staring at business plans, metrics, KPI reports, written excuses, alibis, and future unfulfilled promises on a daily basis and I do shoot whenever I have a chance.

My favorite subject are the exteriors of neighborhood bars and taverns, especially ones with neon signage. If I were in Chicago, I'd have no problems finding good shots!
