if he is able to rotate the car, then he should know that mixed tires are a bad idea at the limit...

also, if this is your 4th event/school then timing yourself is the worst thing you can do to your training at this stage. just work on the car control and hitting your marks. thats more then enough to keep you busy then worrying where you can gain a 1/10th of a sec... especially in a street car thats not designed to sacrifice its life to save yours.

personally i never drive over 6/10ths in a street car (either my own personal ability or the particular car's ability... which ever is LOWER).

Hayaku--

You make a good point re: timing. Let me clarify: I am not timing for the purpose of getting the fastest speed round the track. E.g., I don't drive anywhere NEAR 10/10. The timing is more of a curiosity thing, a fun thing for me to just see what kind of laps ARE being turned, that's all. Besides, I don't have roll-over protection ...... as a result ...... I can't go 10/10 anyway for if I should make a critical error, it's byebye Marc!!

You'll have to just take my word when I say I have a tremendous amount of self-control: I know my own safety limit and I do not exceed that limit, esp in a car that's (a) my daily driver and (b) without rollover protection.

glad you practice self control. lots of people say that but once on the track and they see a "fast" car in front of them and they try to reel them in and pass them, or stay ahead of a "fast" car, they start to take risks... they aren't in school mode anymore, but rather they are now racing. lots of people get lost in the moment and before you know it, an accident is going to happen.

sorry.. i'm rambling again... i have learned that there is no such thing as a dual purpose car and it comes out every chance it gets although i know the other people really don't want to hear it since it bursts their bubble...
