Here's something you can try and it worked for me. Open the junk mail, and on the reply slip (the part with your name and address that you'd mail back) write: "No such person. Remove from mailing list immediately!" Then stuff everything they sent, including the original envelope, into the postage-paid reply envelope and mail it back. Believe me, they won't want to keep paying the postage for this so they'll take you off the list in a hurry. Doing this put an end to 75% of my junk mail in about three months.

Exactly what he said..... AND if you have lots of Junk Mail faxes, reply by faxing 20+ black papers with a sticky note on each one that says:
"REMOVE XXX-XXX-XXXX." (your fax number) They'll get the hint.

As somebody mentioned earlier, you can stop the pre-approved credit card offers by
  1. Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT.
  2. Select option 2 to skip a message about an internet email (described below).
  3. Select option 2 to opt out of mailings permanently. Be careful, because option 1 only opts you out for two years.
  4. Follow the prompts to enter your phone number, name, zip code, address, and social security number.
The service states that your request will be processed within 5 business days, and a "Notice of Election" form will be mailed to you.

They also have a web site equivalent to do online. Can't find it right now.

EDIT: found it https://www.optoutprescreen.com/ Make sure you select permanent opt-out.

Guess what I did on this lovely rainy Sunday.
Get a shredder, you don't want to take a chance.

I hate both hard and email junk mail!
