Here's a quick summary. A guy had a PowerBook to sell on eBay. Someone bought it and tried to scam the seller. The seller caught onto it, and along with some friends at a friendly message board, they scammed the scammer!

I post this because I was almost scammed myself in a similar deal. I have posted my Treo 650 for sale on eBay and someone bought it quickly using Buy It Now. They tried to get me to ship the package before the payment cleared Paypal. The money was supposedly being held in escrow on Paypal somewhere until I send them a tracking number of the shipment.

The moral of this story is, beware scams of this nature on eBay, and make sure you have money in your Paypal account before you ship anything to anyone!

I was hoping we here at X5World could enjoy the fun and scam this scammer, but we don't have any members in Nigeria as far as I know. That's where they wanted me to send the Treo. Oh well. Maybe I'll get lucky and the next scammer will be in London or Spain.
